How safe is the Peanut app?
Very safe, and we’re always making improvements ‒ after all, society and technology are always evolving, so we’re always evolving, too!
Our Peanut Community team makes sure that everyone on Peanut feels as safe as possible when using the app.
Since there are over 2.5 million women (and growing) on Peanut, there are a lot of conversations happening.
Our team is always diligently working to make sure every conversation and every profile is safe ‒ but if you ever see anything that shouldn’t be on Peanut, we’d appreciate it if you could report it, or feel free to use our recommended resources.
So is Peanut app safe? Definitely.
So safe, in fact, we’ve been recognized as one of the best apps of 2021 by Apple.
How to stay safe on the Peanut app
If you want to do all you can to make sure your personal information is kept private, along with keeping other women on the Peanut app safe (thank you!), we’ve put together our top six tips on how to stay safe on Peanut app:
1. Don’t share anything you’re uncomfortable with others seeing
Since the Peanut app is a safe space for people to discuss the ins and outs of womanhood, motherhood, menopause, and fertility, there are some topics that might be a little intimate.
If you’re not comfortable sharing your breastfeeding picture, pregnancy bump, or writing a post about more sensitive topics, you don’t have to.
You can always post anonymously using our ‘Incognito’ option, but that will still mean that people will see your post.
So if you’re not comfortable with people seeing that information, you always have the option not to share it.
There’s no pressure on Peanut at all ‒ you do you.
2. Don’t give out sensitive details
While we’re always working to make sure Peanut is a safe space to connect with other women and people going through feminine experiences, we still recommend not sharing sensitive details in-app.
This includes:
- Your address
- Your ID
- Your Social Security number or National Insurance number
- Your passport or driving license
- Where your child goes to school
- Where your hospital is
- Who your doctor or GP is
- Your bank details
It’s up to you if you’d like to share this information privately with individual members of the Peanut community, although we’d advise arranging a meet-up beforehand, just in case.
3.Don’t share bank details or send money
Never send money or share your bank details with someone you don’t know or trust.
Even if someone appears vulnerable or it’s an emergency.
It’s also worth remembering that wire transfers are the same as sending cash ‒ but with less security, and very little chance of getting your money back.
4. Get permission to share pictures of anyone else
If you’re uploading pictures of another person, their family, their friends, or even someone else in your family, make sure to get permission from them first.
If they’re not on Peanut, they might not want their face on an app that they don’t use.
If they are on Peanut, remember that every person is different, and they might have different circumstances and reasons why they’re using Peanut.
5. Share contact information privately
Peanut is, first and foremost, a safe space for women and people navigating the female experience to connect with each other.
If you connect with someone and become friends, you might want to contact them outside the Peanut app.
While we’d love it if you stayed chatting on Peanut, using our in-app chat, video call, and Pods ]features, we understand if you’d like to exchange phone numbers or email addresses.
We advise against sharing your contact details in public posts or in Groups ‒ instead, privately message people on Peanut to exchange contact information.
6. Arrange meet-ups in a public place
We love seeing our community meeting up with each other!
But if you’re meeting up for the first time with a friend you’ve made on Peanut, it’s best to agree on a public place, like a café or park.
This is ‘just in case’, and generally a good idea if you’re ever meeting up with someone new.
We hope you find these safety tips useful, and look forward to seeing the connections you’ll make on Peanut!
