Hi Lottie, Well apparently my protein:creatinine ratio is significantly high enough that they are concerned I could develop blood clots so it’s a preventative measure. I asked the nurse explaining I dont particularly like needles and she advised me that the consultants have gone through all my test results and wouldnt be recommending it if I didn’t need it
@Nicola gotcha. Like I said before, it’s still just a recommendation. You don’t have to do anything they tell you or recommend. Protein:creatinine ratio is often to do with your infection markers rather than to do with blood clots or it can be regarding preeclampsia. Personally I would challenge this and ask for more information especially given your phobia of needles.
@Lottie yeah I think because it started so early on they ruled out preeclampsia and my other tests (urine culture, kidney scan blood tests for autoimmune disease) have all come back negative so they cant pinpoint why protein is there. But yeah I will ask for more advice as I actually have a phonecall with my GP on Tuesday anyways. Thanks 🤗
I was told I was at higher risk of developing preeclampsia and I’m pretty sure I had the same concern re protein creatine - I took a low dose aspirin for the duration of my pregnancy from 13 weeks, and that was it - blood pressure was monitored throughout and I was given a couple of extra scans to check growth. Could be a different issue entirely but thought I’d share in case it’s useful. I am based in Australia for reference
@Nicola ahh okay. Yeh definitely just worth asking more about if you don’t want to do the injections!
What reason have they put you on the blood thinning injections? You don’t ‘have’ to take them. Like everything, it’s choice and they’re just recommending them.
