i guess the problem with classics is they reinforce what we already know and risk not promoting diversity? your local library will have them and newer books so you could try them all ?
i read allan ahlberg and babette cole books when i was little. and amazing grace! what about you?
Mog, we’re going on a bear hunt, Elmer, goodnight moon, tale of Peter Rabbit, owl babies, dogger, any Shirley hughes, any Janet and Alan ahlberg (jolly postman etc) any jill Murphy just one of those days xx
Percy the park keeper by Nick Butterworth, books by Shirley Hughes, Five Minutes Peace by Jill Murphy, Rainbow Fish, Funny Bones, We’re going on a bear hunt, each peach pear plum
A few of the classics were also modernised found that out Red riding hood Ugly duckling And some others I brought recently have completely changed
@Colette ooo not heard of any of them, thanks! Are the stories good though? I've tried a few books from the library that promote diversity but the stories were a bit lacklustre. I've had the same experience with some adult books. So many great lgb books, but not found a trans author I like. The only book I really remember from when I was little was 'the cat, the crow and the banyan tree' which is just because my mum kept for me.
As a teacher, no books are bad books if they promote a love of reading. If your child enjoys Peppa Pig books, then great. Just try to have a variety of books available and make reading time enjoyable.
I remember loving the Alfie books as a kid so want to try and find them for my little one ☺️ I found quite a few of the classic short stories like Elmer, we’re going on a bear hunt etc in The Works on their 10 for £10 deal x
oh if you want a good adult book by a trans author try torey peters’ detransition baby! alison rumfitt and juliet jacques are also good. for kids books Look up by Dapo is so good!! and Luna series
@Sophie aww I love the works for children's books. I'm using the 10 for £10 to make up a little library for my baby. X
@Carla me too, they are great aren’t they! ☺️ x

Meg and mog loved those books as a kid ☺️
Guess how much I love you, the gruffalo, Elmer, the rainbow fish, Winnie the Pooh, the wind in the willows, the cat in the hat, Paddington bear. These are just books that I loved as a child :) x

Handa's Surprise (fruits and animals and sharing!) Ten Little Fingers Each Peach Pear Plum Peepo! Me! And Sometimes by Emma Dodd
Peepo is such a classic and from a gender perspective at least has the mum snoozing in the armchair while the dad makes tea - I appreciated that one 😂
We're going on a bear hunt, Elmer, old bear, guess how much I love you and the hairy McClairy books. My son loved then
