Long vs short protocol

Hi I’m about to start ivf and have been recommend long protocol ( although told I could request short if preferred) I was told my Amh was low for age (35) at 9.5 Does anyone have experience of long vs short. Some things i’ve read online suggests that short is preferable and I’d rather go through less meds if possible. Feeling overwhelmed by everything!

I think you just need to go back to them and ask why they want you to do the long protocol as opposed to the short. Remember to ask: what are the benefits, what are the risks, and if there are any alternatives. Trust your instincts and ask for a bit of space to make your decision.

I have done both and honestly everyone is different. They usually start with long to make sure they maximise the number of eggs collected. In my case long yielded 16 whereas 2 shorts gave 13 and 10. But some would tell you its quality that matters not quantity. It’s really hard even for doctors to say what would work best for you without actual observations.

I done both - I have a good AMH and had to do ivf due to male factor Short protocol I only received 3 eggs and unfortunately non made it I then went onto long protocol and received 20 eggs

I did a short protocol round first with low amh (2.2) and I seemed to respond really quickly to the meds and then ovulated before collection so we didn’t get any eggs. We were devastated. My understanding became that the long protocol gave better control over the process. The 2 long protocols we did yielded 2 eggs and 3 eggs with 1 and 2 embryos respectively

Can I ask how old you are? My AMH is a similar number and I’m going for IVF soon so I’m wondering if maybe they’ll suggest I do the long protocol

I’m 31, my AMH was 9.7 and I just did a long protocol which worked well for me. Hope that helps!

@Helen I’m 37 and my results were 8.8 so I’m assuming it’ll be the long protocol for me too but i guess I’ll have to wait and see what they say

Hi I’m 35. thanks for all responses ! Things I have read online were confusing me and I don’t feel the doctor fully explained the reasons so I will ask for more information at the next app
