Toddler sick days

Hi everyone, My 2 year old just started nursery last week and as expected he’s got a little cold at the moment 🥺 This may sound like a silly question 🫣 but what do you guys do with your little ones when they’re sick? Do you do activities or are you okay with just letting them watch tv all day as it’s just for a few days (I do feel guilty just having him watch tv all day 😭) if activities, could you recommend any as I think he’s bored of all my games now 🤣 Thank you 🤍

Depends what the illness is. If it's just a cold we go about our normal business as usual, just keeping his hands as clean as possible. Unless they have a fever or aren't well in themselves, they still go to nursery with a bit of a cold. He'd never be at nursery if I kept him off for every sniffle 😅😅 but it's your call as his mum whether he is well enough to go in or not If it's something more like a tummy bug or fever etc then we just stay in the house and probably have more TV than normal and just standard playing with his toys, we do a lot of floor play with his cars etc normally anyway.

If my little boy is unwell we stay away from others so that nobody else catches it as I think sending little one to day care knowing they are unwell is so unfair to other children but it can be hard on parents who need to take time off work too totally get that however as a parent you should be entitled to care of a dependant leave at work Also I would roll with what little one wanted to do or needed to do extra sleep or lying with a blanket watching favourite tv shows for a few days won’t hurt until he’s recovered and back into normal routine parents are a child’s safe space so lots of extra snuggles too

@Nicole my nursery tells us they're fine to go in as long as we as parents think they're well enough in themselves, eating/drinking normally, not needing Calpol, no fever etc. If every toddler was kept at home for every little sniffle there'd never be any kids in nursery 😂😂 I can't afford to keep him out of nursery every week with these relentless back to back colds they catch at this age, there's always something! It is also good for their immune system though 🤷 If it's a genuine illness like a bug, fever etc then 100% stay away from others. But a cold.. you have to continue life lol

@Laura that’s totally up to you and your opinions but as a mum who’s little boy has severe asthma and also problems with their heart then catching a “ silly cold” or “ sniffles “ can be fatal to him and if any other children have any sort of illness then it can affect them too plus the fact my child comes before money and is my priority a job can be replaced a child can’t !

@Nicole totally get that - I never called it a "silly cold" though 😅 Unfortunately finances do have to be prioritised as well though, if I lost my job we wouldn't have food to eat, a roof over our head. I wouldn't even be able to afford to send him to nursery in the first place. It's not just my opinion, it's the advice and guidance given by my nursery which is what I, and other parents there, follow
