@Storm thank you
@Brianna you’re welcome!
Focus on play based learning 💛 my daughter is 4.5 and still isn’t ready for any sit down work. They learn best through play until about 6.
Children, especially young children under 7, don’t need structured academics. They need lots of unstructured play with open ended toys, time outside, and involved and responsive parents/caregivers who provide them with a life filled with opportunities and experiences. Play = learning. Life IS the curriculum. My boys are 9, 6, & 2. My older boys have learned how to write, read, & do math without structured academics. Our main daily focuses are time outside, free play, reading, spending some quality time together, getting our daily household responsibilities done/life skills, & enjoying life. They have learned so much just from me talking, I describe everything & communicate every detail I can. I use multiple resources - books, card & board games, hands-on projects/experiments, field trips, or watching a video or documentary.
Learning to write = play-doh, large body movements, digging in the sand, crafts, drawing in sand/salt, finger painting, coloring. Learning to read = word games, rhyming, talking about letter sounds, large body movements, making up your own language/words, labeling common words around the house. And most importantly read lots of books & have them available for your children to browse. Math = counting, sorting, cooking, baking, blocks, legos, puzzles, putting things together/taking them apart, or exploring motions such as flipping. GAMESCHOOLING is an excellent way to learn while having fun! Candy land = colors Uno = colors and numbers High ho cherry-o = counting and colors Yahtzee = math Bananagrams = letter recognition and spelling I highly recommend reading... •How Children Learn by John Holt & •Free to Learn by Peter Gray
Don’t expect a 3yo to focus for more than 5 minutes at a time. Also don’t try to recreate school at home. They learn best by playing at this age.
