Constantly Crying Baby

Hi, I have a 4 week old son who is constantly crying between 3-8pm. This has started around the time we have increased his bottle feed portion. Currently he has 4-5 ounces every 3 hours but struggles with gas and is in constant pain. We are using infacol and coleaf to help his digestion but maybe it’s too much formula? We reduced his feed intake but he shows signs of hunger each time after so it’s like he is wanting that extra ounce or so. He doesn’t have a dummy which helped massively with our daughter as a comforter when she was a newborn but we are trying not to use it as it was very difficult to get her off it. Any help would be much appreciated.

It sounds like witching hour and a lot of babies do this for some time. It’s to do with new things all around them and getting overwhelmed but it’s normal. Be mindful it’s not colic though. Have you tried using colic relief? I took my baby to an osteopath for a few sessions and he helped straighten his stomach quicker xx

Have you tried paced feeding? Likely a build up of gas from the bigger milk quantity. Even using infacol and colief they can still get a build up, it’s what we’ve started doing and it’s definitely easing up slightly x

Do you give the infacol 10 mins before the feed? It doesn’t say to do this, but someone gave us this advice & it helped. Also we let him break himself off when bottle feeding rather than stopping him mid feed to burp him. We wait til he has had enough and let’s go of the bottle. It reduces air intake. Can try going a bit longer between feeds too. We do 4-5 hours late evening & overnight. 4 hours through the day. Our boy has just moved from 4 to 5oz at 4 weeks too after a grumpy few days lol

My first daughter was a proper colicky screamer every evening, it was a shock when my second didn’t do this! We tried everything with Rosie but it stopped overnight on its own when she was between 8-12 weeks I forget the exact age. Xx

@Leanne hey that infacol advice was me haha! glad to hear it’s helped! hope you and baby are doing well x

Signs of hunger can actually be signs of digestive discomfort. If baby has wind etc this sounds likely. Could you consider switching to a different formula and see if that helps?
