Am I being mad for feeling like this?

I'm absolutely petrified to give birth in a hospital in case someone tries to steal my baby I know it sounds mad but the amount of articles I've seen it's scaring me to death

Don’t know if it will help ease your worry but my baby was literally never away from me for a second after being born minus her being weighed but that was still in the same room so very unlikely that could have happened. The articles could be made up/ scaremongering. Just advocate for yourself and if someone is wanting to take baby somewhere (which I don’t think they should) then ask to go with them?

You shouldn’t ever need to be separated from your baby, unless your baby needs the NICU or something in which case I’d insist you accompany them there (if you’re well enough) and if not and you’re having a birthing partner make sure they go with the baby x

Thank you both for putting my mind at ease 😌 I think I'm just worrying over the most ridiculous things at the moment x

Security within the wards is normally quite controlled. As baby will be in a cot on wheels, you can literally take them everywhere - including the toilet!

I totally get your fears! I didn’t like leaving my babies even for a second. Anytime someone came to do observations or checks they were so good. I just asked lots of questions. If I needed the loo or the shower when I was waiting for my partner to get there I just asked one of the nurses or student midwives to watch them. They were very understanding x

Because we live in England the amazing thing is our babies do NOT leave our sides at all. They come to you to do all the tests etc and you’re health visitor can do most of them at home. My baby never left me at all he had FOUR!! name tags one on each limb and I watched them put them on him. He even came with me to shower 😂 I wheeled him into the bathroom with me.

Don’t know where you are in the UK but in my hospital babies are tagged with multiple name tags plus a sort of ankle bracelet which alarms immediately if taken off the ward and initiates a lockdown. It also alarms if forcibly removed too. We had to have it removed before we took our baby home and they double checked who we were before they removed it But both times I’ve given birth my babies have never left my side the whole time we were in hospital
