I got referred, didn't hear when they said I would, chased it up, had an assessment 6 weeks later then I got told to wait another 6/7 weeks...my baby will be born by then. Bit pointless having therapy for antenatal depression weeks after baby is here...So not an overall positive experience. At all. Hopefully you get better. It's worth trying - just be more pushy than I was. x
As others have said they will assess you and refer you which is worth pushing for regardless but I believe you can also self refer for ‘talking therapies’ and I understand they should get back to you quite quickly with this for their assessment and I believe you may be prioritised if pregnant x
The wait for talking therapies is still at least 12 weeks even when pregnant I got told. Bit of a broken system to be honest. X
It's a bit of a joke really. There is very minimal help available. I was referred for PND straight from the hospital and but was only offered an assessment in November as my first meeting with them. I'm 3 weeks pp and have been pushy there just aren't enough mental health professionals to take on the demand. I've gone through community midwives, my healthy visitor and my GP
I self referred for talking therapies on Tuesday and I’ve got my first session on Monday so it may be hit and miss dependant on your location with regards to waiting time. So may still be worth giving that a go if that would be helpful for you 😊
They’ll check you against a questionnaire and if you score high enough you’ll be referred to the mental health midwife team
