Baby struggling to poo

My little boy is 9 days old, he’s on Kendamil formula. Every evening he seems really uncomfortable and struggles to poo. It’s the only time he cries and he gets bloated. Does anyone have any tips how to help this? I’ve tried tummy massages and bicycle moves with his legs but doesn’t seem to help. Hate seeing him upset 😢

Really warm bath with tummy massages while he’s in the bath. There are other things like an ounce of baby apple juice or an ounce of baby prune juice but he’s so young idk about those things I didn’t have that problem until my baby was about a month old and his doctor said he can have one ounce of juice per how many months he his so 1oz=1 month 2oz=2 months etc.

It also cuz be gas so if you are near a Walmart you can get some little remedies gas drops and gripe water they worked wonders for me and it’s all natural so it’s safe to use multiple times a day

If you have the Kendamil Whole Milk formula, try switching to the Kendamil Goat Milk formula. It's much easier on baby's digestive system. It might work for you. I had the same issue with my son when he was a week old (he's 2 mo. now) and once we switched, he had a much easier time.

My son was on Kendamil formula and it was the best decision that I made. But my little one didn’t experience what your little one is going through. I’m sorry about his tummy. But they have baby apple juice and you can give him a little bit in his bottle and that will help push along everything that’s backed up. Anytime my son was constipated I gave him some juice and within hours or even 30 minutes he was clearing out. Keep your head up momma! You got this!

No that’s ok. Is he on the stage 1 one? He’s 9 days old his digestive system is really immature. As long as he’s not colic or throwing up a lot or any other weird stuff going on and he’s just a little fussy or crying and then let’s out gas and poops in a few minutes like 15 or something then it will get better. But if he’s inconsolable and everything else then try a gentler formula. Like Kendamil comfort milk.

@Patricia how do you know it was the best decision? If you don’t mind me asking. So curious because I always hear great things. However, this is where I gotta disagree with you. Her 9 day old absolutely cannot have apple juice. Not even watered down apple juice. In fact juice isn’t even recommended for babies much older than that. It’s really dangerous to recommend this to people on the internet who may not know better and give their baby any juice at all but especially if they gave them a lot. If her baby fills up on juice or water that’s a meal replacement and he won’t be getting the nutrition he needs every time he needs it.

I did a lot of research on formula shortly after having my son. I originally planned on breast feeding but wasn’t producing a lot of milk, then the formula they have at the hospital wouldn’t sit with my son. He kept throwing it up. So I would give him the donated breast milk to feed him. During this time it was so stressful for me and my son and I always knew that Similac and Enfamil formulas were not good for the baby. And they are always on the news. I’m a big person about ‘the clean label’ products for my son especially when it has a lot to do with nutrition and development. Kendamil checked all of my boxes on what I did and didn’t want for my son to have. Ever since I started giving him Kendamil I felt as being a first time mom that is was the best decision because that formula has such good ingredients in it. And everything that the UK has for their products and food is just so healthy and free of bad stuff compared to what we have here in the US.

Thank you so much everyone ❤️

Gripe water.

I am breastfeeding but occasionally supplement with formula. My GP and OB both said that newborns should only have ready-made formula - no powder. If you’re using powder, it will definitely be harder for your little one to digest, especially at 9 days old - and has more contamination risks. My brother and his wife used powder formula and their daughter had much more severe issues with colic than our little one so far. Otherwise, bicycle kicks, light belly massage and even bringing your hands under the bum and elongating the lower back can help with gas. I was also told to do this more during the day, not only at nighttime when they’re trying to pass wind (or poop)x It’s definitely normal that they struggle. Apparently farting/pooping is initially a reflex that eventually goes away and they have to learn how to engage their muscles to get the job done. So doing these things to help them are important. Our little guys is 9 weeks and seems to be starting to get the hang of it!

As for risks with Powdered formula: Both liquid ready-to-feed formula and liquid concentrate are made to be sterile and are the safer options than powdered infant formula. There have been recalled powdered products even this year in Canada because of serious contamination issues. I hope some of this is helpful!!!
