First Speeding Ticket

Hey ladies, I just received my first speeding ticket in Corpus Christi yesterday afternoon (10/20/2024) for going 18 mph over. I’m legit a little freaked out cause I don’t want this to impact my insurance but also because I’ve never been through this process before. 🥲 Any tips would be much appreciated.

Just pay it online. It won’t affect anything. It’s just a money grab for the system. The Tx speed limit laws are loosely defined for that reason.

See if you can do defensive driving. There are online courses and I believe if you go that route, it shouldn't impact your insurance.

I tried going online to pay but when I input my citation number or my DL information, no record pops up.

I believe if you take the driving course they offer, it doesn't go on your record, so you could go that route. If you pay it, it does go on your record regardless of whether you plead guilty or not.

There should be a phone number you can call on your ticket to speak to someone about your options. It's also going to take more than a day to appear in the system

Hey, don’t stress too much! First off, check if you’re eligible for defensive driving or deferred adjudication. Both can help keep it off your record and avoid an insurance hike. You’ll probably need to pay the fine either way, but those options could save you from bigger headaches. Make sure to handle it before the court date, though!
