Bathtime blues

My 3 month old hates the bath, he just screams until he is dried off. I’m devastated. I don’t know what to do I feel like I’ve tried everything. I can’t NOT bathe him but I can’t stand to see him like that. I have no idea what to do… EDIT: Thanks everyone for suggestions, unfortunately I have tried it all and it has made no difference. Hates showers, coving with a cloth, makes no difference if I hold him. I am truly at a loss

Hv you tried bath toys? It can help him to focus on other things. And also if the water temperature is warm enough for him?

@Marceline he doesn’t open his eyes long enough between screams to see the toys. I’ve tried the water every possible temp :(

@Marceline my one was the opposite, he prefers slightly colder water (34- 35 degrees). So maybe try that as well!

Have you tried covering his body in a wet muslin cloth whilst in the bath? It can really help to settle some babies in the water

My first daughter was like this, and had loads of hair to wash as well! Made me sad as well. It’s not very nice but just be as quick as you can. I don’t have any tricks, but it did get easier when she was older, did take a while though. Shes 3 now and loves the bath! Second child has always loved the bath 🤷🏻‍♀️

I do what Amy suggested and it’s the only way my little dude will take a bath

When mine could sit up he started to love the bath but before that it was such a rare thing as I hated the screams

Have you tried taking him in the shower with you? My LO is OK in the bath but only for a short while and hates the transition out, shower is easier sometimes and my partner wraps him straight in a towel and takes him to get dressed, seems quicker & the air around them is warm too x

Man, my 2 month old is the opposite, she loves it and screams as soon as we get her out, which completely negates whatever relaxing effect it had lol I agree with Amy, if you don’t do it, you should try covering her with a little towel or cloth that is warm from the bath water, which you need to obviously keep warming up with more warm water so it doesn’t get cold during the bath. I’ve always done that and I think she finds that instantly relaxing!

Same. I get in the bath with him and cuddle him tight so he feels safe and he’s just started to have a tentative splash around (he’s nearly 5 months). We put his towel on the radiator / in the dryer before so it’s nice and warm when he gets out. We only bath twice a week at 36 degC and he has a “whores bath” with a wet flannel the other days.

Also do you use a bath seat or do you hold him? X

I’m in the same boat as @Marina! My baby loves the bath. We use the Frida Baby 4-in-1 Tub, and he just lounges out while I get to scrub in between his toes and all! We do have three wash cloths in the bath tub at all times so it stays warm with the water & we swap them out as the one on his belly cools off. I also recently purchased this baby shower head that he also really likes, and it helps rinse him off a lot faster so our baths are like 15 minutes long max. Our problem is when we get him out, but we’ve gotten into the habit of getting a diaper, warm onesie, and sleep sack all ready on the bed so we dry him off quickly and put him in all of those so he can be warm. We also dry his hair with a warm wash cloth while I feed him after the bath, and then he goes right to sleep! He just hates being cold, especially right after the warm bath. https://a.co/d/7felbgF https://a.co/d/cY3U6tQ

have you tried a shower instead?? we shower in the mornings if we’re busy and my baby enjoys it way more x

My second was like this he grew out of it around 5/6! Months I just kept bathing him and figured he would get used to it

Can you run the tap, with an empty bath. Wait until water is warm and sit him on your lap over the bath and just watch the water. Then dip his toe under it and see his reaction. You can keep at that until you’ve put both toes under and wet his legs. Then sit him in the empty bath and out the plug in. I’d definitely do temp between 33-35 no hotter as even 36-37 (body temperature) can feel very hot if you just put them in without getting used to it first. Make sure towel is warm or even use one of your large (warm) t shirts to dry as it may also be the texture of the towel

My LO is the same at the moment, just hates bath time, just keeping preserving honestly it's a pain in the arse! I haven't read all the replies so apologies if someone has already said it but the best thing I found was going in the bath with my daughter. Also, getting her involved in setting up the bath (she's 15m), maybe just set LO so he can see you running the water and putting toys in before getting in aswell 🤷🏼‍♀️ Fingers crossed something works!

I agree with @grace I bathed with mine for a long time, until she was crawling actually lol. She absolutely loves the water now! And it was such a positive way to end the day, we both got clean and there were no tears lol.

maybe he’s scared of being in bathtub. you can try to give him bath in a room. or hold him while giving bath. i was in the same boat. my husband used to hold him while i give him a bath very gently. i only started giving him bath all by myself when he was6-7 months old

A huge age gap but my 15m old hates baths too😮‍💨we just give her rag baths now and try to make it as peaceful as possible 🤷‍♀️they’ll eventually grow out of it

My baby used to hate bath. We just stop bathing him. It's not something you HAVE to do. We started to shower with him and he enjoys it. You can also just clean him with a wet towel and that's it.

My baby HATED laying back in the bath. I had to get her a seat where she could sit upright more

Ours wasn’t a fan until 3-4 months so i used to Feed a bit first than bath and feeling full has kept him more docile during the whole bath process although some people don’t want to bathe on a full stomach so this might not work for them . He does not need it anymore now as he’s learnt to love it

Try getting in the bath with him
