@Chloe thank you, should I be concerned if he is fussing sometimes when feeding? I’m not sure if it’s because of my fast flow. He definitely doesn’t have a tongue tie
I think it depends on the severity of the fussing, what is he like? How often? I think it’s normal to an extent, they’re still little and getting used to lots of things. I think it depends x
@Chloe not ever feed maybe 2/3 times a day. Part of me thinks he just gets frustrated with himself but I also don’t want to just dismiss it x
Does it last long? It’s really hard to know.. with my little one i couldn’t ignore it, it was that bad. Turns out he had lip tie and a dairy allergy x
@Chloe normally the majority of the feed until he gets tired x
They used to advise that a ‘perfect latch’ had the top lip flanged out - and in that case a lip tie could seem a preventative cause for a good latch. However of more recent times it’s suggested that actually the top lip doesn’t need to flange out at all; and so a lip tie shouldn’t really have any impact. Kids normally end up growing out of them, severing it themselves accidentally when falling over (my son did this at 1/1.5.. blood everywhere frickin awful🤣🤣🤣) and you’d probably only really notice a severe lip tie if it’s so low and tight it causes a very noticeable gap between the front teeth once they come through. My fast let down basically attacks my baby and it makes him fuss lol, I’ve started using a haakka to compress it just before feeding so he isn’t basically getting waterboarded and he’s a lot less fussy
@Amy I use my haakaa when he fusses and sometimes he still does, I think he might just get frustrated with my boob 😂 thank you for that info I didn’t know they changed it!
It’s definitely a lip tie, but they don’t do anything about them, as they shouldn’t affect their latch etc. Both my boys have them, they are only concerned if it’s a tongue tie, and sometimes aren’t fussed unless they have a problem with feeding etc
