@Lydia Thank you 😊 if I am to go ahead I would use an unknown donor but i will do my research before choosing. Cost is something that I am looking at, if I go ahead with IUI it wouldn't be until at least 2026 so my aim is to save up for it all of next year. I got pregnant quite easily before and I'm still in my 20s so my fertility is quite high, Hoping this will mean less cycles x
I am currently pregnant with a baby conceived through donor insemination (IUI). Happy to chat.
I have experience on starting the process (still have my donor sperm from the last few years stored at European sperm bank which I’m deciding if I’ll use for sybling for my current daughter or will sell back to them, at the moment storing it for next few years) although my daughter came as an accident when I was in process of still planning it. Wasn’t entirely happy about that as had really put a lot of yrs of research and medical stuff to do my long awaited plan of being SMBC (single mother by choice). But I am now I guess classed as a single mother by circumstance. But a total solo parent with no other parent. But luckily for me I guess he is and never will and has never been in the picture. But sadly for my daughter (and it took me also a while to get over the disappointment of it happening the way it did) she isn’t the result of my plans to be SMBC. Because I’d gone to great lengths for few yrs in planning of it and that was what I wanted
Had even through online forums found two other families (in other countries) (one same sex couple & one SMBC mother of two other donor siblings created by same donor. No others created as he was a short term donor and I had purchased the last of his donor vials. And liked the idea she would have possibility of open communication to other donor siblings one day. My current daughter will never know her father. And I’m wondering how she’ll feel if I follow my IVF plans later for a child that’ll be her sybling how she’ll feel that her sybling may have a file to her open ID at 18 donor and that child will have donor syblings etc. But will navigate that later. Was originally going to a well recomended ivf clinic in north Cyprus for my plans for doing it through ivf. From feedback from others I always felt ivf was best route as they can choose the strongest embryos created, freeze any spares (if any) and more success to IUI.
Yes I have just had a son via donor conception. It’s been the best experience and wonderful decision however there’s a lot to consider and stuff I’ve learnt since having him. I’ll post some links for you below…. Consider ethical, legal, and practical stuff mainly. Do a lot of background reading into known vs unknown donors (including ethics and hearing the voices of donor conceived people in respect to knowing their biological origins), consider the differences between your childrens siblings and their biological origins (it might not bother you but may them as they grow). Cost is high for IUI and likely triple for IVF. I spent around £10K for IUI for a 3 cycle package. Many I know have spent £30K+++ xxx
