@Tasmin thanks for this. I don’t want to be too nosey but is this viewed on your pay slips? Like does it say how m much NI or Tax you’re paying out of it x
I get maternity allowance and you don’t get taxed on it because it’s called as a benefit x
It depends on your earnings in the tax year and how much you’ve paid already. For example i ended up having paid too much tax when i went on maternity leave so had a monthly refund for about 7/8 months on top of my maternity allowance. My advice would be to work out how much your earnings are before any deductions from March 24 to March 25 then go from there x
Please also look into Sure start maternity grant! Worth a shot to see if you're eligible :)
What is maternity allowance? No way this is an American thing because I’ve never heard of it 😂
@Madison it’s English. It’s for those that don’t get SMP
@Leah no it’s never come up on my payslips, maternity allowance is classed as a benefit. If you’re in a low income household it’s also worth looking into UC to see if you can get any help from them for top up xx
@Leah I get SMP and I'm entitled to maternity allowance!
@Tasmin yeah that’s what I’m doing atm with the benefits calculator but it’s gone from saying quite a high amount if on SMP to like a £600 drop on MA which is quite disheartening 🙃 xx
@Leah unfortunately it tends to be the case, however it’s worth getting every penny you can and if you’re eligible to be on UC too it increases your chances of being granted the sure start maternity grant too xx
@Tasmin thank you x
@Leah no worries it’s also worth joining bounty as you can get freebies ect on there and free baby photo shoot worth £75 too. Also Ella’s kitchen you get coupons for free and money off baby food for when the time comes xx
I get maternity allowance. I don't pay any tax or NI on it :) I actually paid too much tax before going on maternity leave so I've been getting a tax refund monthly on top of maternity allowance x
Hiya I’m on maternity allowance and it works out to be £736.12 a month xx
