Good cookware is expensive and an investment so thats just the reason, some people are also not educated
Specific non stick coatings are toxic. And usually only once damaged. But I still avoid anything non stick or close other than enameled cast Iron if I can avoid it. But idk why people would chose to cook with plastic. Wooden/bamboo or silicon only for us, with plastic only for serving spoons etc where it won't get hot enough to melt. My dad uses plastic spatulas all the time and it drives me crazy tbh
just here to say that i use hexclad which is PTFE-free so maybe not everyone is using cheap toxic non stick cookware
Others using nonstick cookware doesn’t mean it’s nontoxic babe. Most are safe. A lot of the toxic ones are older they can’t go in ovens because they’d get too hot and could release toxins. But ultimately people are trying to feed themselves and/or their family. I think you should start a nonprofit that gifts nonstick cookware to each household in need😞 shame on them. Not all ceramic or cast iron cookware are non toxic but most are safe. We’re all unaware of what we don’t know!
My pans were £400 for a small set and non stick - are they toxic?!?! Or are we talking just the cheap ones you can buy? Always use wooden spoons
No not everyone is still using them. Def not me. I do me, I don’t care what everyone else is doing, I join groups that are specific to my interests on FB and that’s where I find my tribe, other people doing the same as me in my eco journey, I don’t expect other people to be on the same level as in having the same funds to invest or the same knowledge on that subject or even having the mental capacity to even go there, some people have enough family drama to deal with and not even caring what cookware they use as long as it’s usable and can cook meals to eat. Some mums are stressed enough at the thought of cooking everyday let alone what she’s cooking on. Personally I only have cast iron (enameled and raw) stainless steel and carbon steel pots and pans. Carbon steel baking trays and I use a silicone mat on top instead of baking paper
Everything is toxic nowadays. Give a fuck 🤷♀️
Non-stick cookware (often the cheaper stuff) that uses PTFE and PFOA is toxic. And should not be used. Don’t be scared of the term “Non stick” as it’s just an adjective. Not every brand uses the toxic stuff in their cookware. You have to do your research when purchasing. For example, reputable brands such as Le Creuset has Non-stick ranges that are PTFE and PFOA-free. So therefore are not toxic. You can even put them in the oven.
@Francesca what brand are yours? i highly doubt they are toxic as most high end brands especially costing as much as yours are PTFE free x
I think it’s a mix, people don’t care and also it’s cheaper. I’m really aware of how toxic so much stuff is, polyester clothes, ingredients in our food, cleaning products, candles, perfume! Almost everything is toxic, I do what I can to reduce it but I also try to not stress too much, because I would constantly be stressed. You can try educate people but it’s up to them what they do
They are toxic but people cant afford to change or don’t think it’s that important.
I think people are unaware. It’s also very expensive to get non toxic…
Nope, I do not use non-stick anything they are the worst!
I have no choice but to use the pans my in laws have and i hate it. Theyre teflon and i can just feel it leeching into my food. Once i get my own cook wear in our own home my man knows its gas stove cast iron and steel pans. Stainless steel pans are naturally nonstick. Just have to wait until its hot enough🥰
Non sticks are toxic and my guess is whoever is using them either doesn’t care or can’t afford to invest in good cast iron or ceramic cookware. I use cast iron skillets and wood/ bamboo utensils
