It’s not controlling at all. You can’t just ‘take pictures however and whenever you please’ it’s unacceptable to walk into a coffee shop or a park and randomly just take a picture of someone minding their own business -let alone then post it online. As I said in my message I originally thought she didn’t post her child’s face as they were all of his back of head, then more came with face showing.

I understand where you’re coming from, but it’s pretty impossible to expect everyone in a public place to not post a photo if you/your child is in the background. While yes, taking a photo of your child on purpose and posting it wouldn’t be okay - there’s only so much someone can do if there are kids in the background of a photo. It’s certainly not illegal to take photos in a public space and post them online without permissions.

They are only stories, though, so they only stay up for 24 hours, so I don't see the harm. If they were being posted on the grid/wall, then I could understand being annoyed.

This is coming from someone (me) who does expect privacy for their child and does their best to keep his face out of public forums.

Why not just cover other children's faces if there are any in photos. I try my best to not get other children in photos or you could blur out the children's faces

You should have the permission to post pictures of someone's child, you could be putting their life at risk for all you know and it's not your place. Yes I post pictures of my kids but in group settings I will blur or obscure other children's faces unless I have the parents expressed permission.

Once you share something on social media you have potentially placed it out there to be circulated worldwide.

Don’t post other people’s kids. Simple

When I did my undergrad in media one of the things we were told about filming (for tv) was that you can film anyone in a public setting except for children. You had to cut scenes with children in or blur them out unless you had written consent from their guardian/parent. Can’t say if that applies to social media, but I’d think it’s more polite not to post people without their consent or children for that matter.

I can see both sides of this, I’m part of a hiking moms group in my area and a lot of the moms are influencers and they always put stickers over the other kids faces when we take group photos that are then shared to their social media, I think that’s very respectful because they’re influencers with a ton of followers.. but when it comes to the other random moments of parents snapping pics of their kids and sharing it to an instagram story for example I think that’s pretty harmless if your child happens to be somewhere in the background, it’s a public space you kinda have to expect it happens but obviously everyone should make an effort to not post those somewhere permanent online, I have a private account so I’ve posted photos of my kids at library story time with other kids in the background and didn’t think twice about because there’s just no harm to it imo

Morally yes that shouldn’t happen & people should be more mindful but once you are in a public space people have free will and no one can control what the next person will do unfortunately 💯

I personally would happily blur other children’s faces, for the record (or photoshop them out) if it came to that. But it’s pretty much impossible to police *everyone* on a matter like this. That’s all I meant. To clarify^

i hate people who post pics of kids without even asking! i have a very very strict rule of not posting my kid on the internet which family members have purposely disobeyed and i have yelled at them for it and i do not feel bad. want a pic you can see all the time? print one out, frame it! not wanting your kids face on the internet ESPECIALLY with technology as terrifying as ai face recognition and scammers, is perfectly reasonable. same with if you dont want your kids face on the internet for other reasons! theyre your kid.

ugh sorry and i also hate the nonchalant response of "well you cant control anyone". we have the responsibility to protect our kids. if you dont want it on the internet make that known and get it taken down or reposted. it takes literally two seconds to put an emoji over a kids face. 0% effort, 100% everyones responsibility when posting images.

I know I definitely can be more mindful with this, as I understand I don’t like others doing it. Thank you for the reminder 🩷
