Sex after birth

I’m 8 months PP and still yet to do the deed. I’m terrified as it still doesn’t feel right down there and I’m worried it never will. I had an assisted delivery with episiotomy and still having ongoing physio for my pelvic floor as a result. Just wondered what others experience is with recovery, does it ever feel the same down there or will I just feel open and loose forever 😣 How long did everyone wait before having sex again?

We tried 2 months postpartum, it feel fine and I’d say even better actually now then before but the first few times it won’t feel great especially if you had stitches like me. Definitely doesn’t feel loose or open I’d say probably more right then anything because of the stitching

We waited 6 weeks. But i felt ready to go. It is scary to get it over and done with but if its pain you’re scared of then just take it slow! Just go until you feel you cant and stop at that. I cant say it was painful, i had a few stitches but i cant say it was painful the first time we did the deed again..

We began again just shy of the 6 weeks (I know this is naughty, don't tell me off🤣) I had an episiotomy and a 2nd degree tear aswell. I did heal very well though. The first couple of times did, and will feel weird but it wasnt painful, but it soon gets easier / more enjoyable again. You don't have to full blown be back into it, if you feel you want to try, then try until you want to stop. It's about baby steps I think, but only when you actually feel ready, how long it's been is not important ☺️

I am the same as you, I also have a prolapse so I am too scared. I suffered with pelvic girdle pain from 20ish weeks, I saw a physio when I was pregnant but have had no aftercare on that, can I ask how you’re still seeing a physio? I am waiting for a gynaecologist appointment (it’s been 4 months since my GP has referred me) for my prolapse but other than that have had no other support ☹️

@Steph I think I had a stage 4 prolapse also, but I was referred to the specialist physio team by my GP at my 6-week checkup and had an appointment the following week. If you have a prolapse I’m shocked you haven’t been seen yet, that’s appalling and you should be pushing them for an update. If it’s any consolation all I do with the physio is pelvic floor exercises so I’m not doing or receiving anything I couldn’t do myself at home it’s just they monitor my progress. A friend was provided a piece of kit by her physio team but it’s a different health care trust. She found it worked and I think you can buy them online, it’s an electronic device that stimulates the muscles

Did you have forceps? That’s so good you got seen so quickly. My GP said I had a front and back prolapse but needed the gynaecologist to confirm the next steps! It must be where I am for how long it’s taking. Did your GP confirm the grade for you? That’s good to know, I have been doing Pilates with a post natal instructor and she’s been helping me with my pelvic floor exercises. I am not surprised you feel worried about doing the deed, but you aren’t alone 🩷 I would like to have another baby at some point and at the moment it just seems like that would never be possible x

@Steph no I had the suction cup but his shoulders got stuck so the Dr literally pulled me apart trying to get him out 😣 I think the physio confirmed the stage for me, not the Dr. I feel exactly the same about baby number two, it feels like I’m never going to be the same down there and I’m terrified what might happen with another delivery - I would be tempted to have a c section. Now my boy is getting heavy that is definitely not helping the recovery with so much heavy lifting 🥲

Oh it sounds so similar to mine although I had forceps so 100% share your pain 🥲 I had a long labour and when I was finally able to push he kept coming out and going back and then they said he was back to back so I had to go to theatre for forceps. I know a couple of girls who have had c sections and within a week they were both pretty normal, obviously had to be careful. But I would say it took me 2 months before I was comfortable-ish on going out for walks so I agree with opting for a c section next time if we are lucky enough to have another baby, but have to try and have intercourse first 😂😂 if you ever want to chat just drop me a message, I don’t know anyone with the same symptoms as me so it can feel quite alien x
