Keep on top of pain killers, take it as easy as possible, disposable highwaisted knickers will be your mate for a while, baggy clothes (somethin like baggy long T-shirts to chill in at home), try to keep everything you need off of the floor ready for you to come home. Just keep as calm and comfy as you can and know that it will pass. Try and enjoy being able to rest in your bubble
@Chloe how soon after your section did you have a shower? My midwife has said to leave it as long as possible so it stays dry longer but my section is the 18th dec and I know I’ll want to feel fresh when home towards Xmas x
@Lizzie I could shower as soon as I was up after both of my c-sections. The wound is covered for the first ten days so it wouldn't get wet if you did shower.
@Lizzie I had a shower the day after my section in the hospital. I had a water resistant dressing on and pressed a towel over it. My boyfriend then came in the shower with me and washed my hair and body for me. I had an emergency c-section after a 4 day labour so to put it politely I absolutely reeked and had to shower as I was knocking myself sick 🤣 you might be able to get away with not showering for a day or two if it’s an elective as you can make sure you’re nice and clean before you go in x
Thanks @Sam @Chloe I didn’t realise the dressing is waterproof so yeah will defo be showering to get rid of hospital smell at least! Have having greasy hair!!
Take it as easy as you can, it’s a major abdominal surgery so try not to do too much too soon! When getting up out of bed try not to engage your muscles too much, sort of roll on your side and push up with your arms (make full use of the hospital bed when you’re there) I still took a peri-bottle and was so glad I did, made it much easier to keep clean without bending and wiping. Take your own ibuprofen and paracetamol as they can be a bit slow bringing it round. When changing baby try to have everything in hands reach, I kept nappy caddies in every room. Keep your scar clean and dry. I dried mine after a shower with the hair dryer on the cool setting and tried to air it out for an hour or two a day, it healed really nicely. Loose fitting clothes as well - i wore nighties and disposable maternity pants for about 2 weeks 🤣 Good luck xx
