Big girl C-section

So I had a C-section about a week ago and noticed today that the area around the incision seems a bit raw, my partner even had a look at it and agreed. I’m a bigger girl and the scar is right under my stomach fold so the midwife suggested to take like an unscented pad and pop it under to help keep it dry and clean. I’ve been doing that but it honestly seems like it’s getting worse. Does anyone have any tips on what I can do? I don’t really fancy going back into hospital as I already spent a lot of time there both before and after the LO was born x

Make sure its kept dry and let the air get to it. Lye on the bed and lift you're stomach allowing the air to get to it often and loose clothing/underwear. I would definitely get someone to look at it sooner then later due to it being a fresh incision it can open back up if irritated/ infected. They won't admit you for how describe it currently but can give you advice/ abx if needed to prevent it breaking down. Wishing you the best x

I had the same issue. I found pads actually made it worse for me so I started putting a muslin in the fold and it did the trick for me just make sure you wash it with warm salty water at least twice a day. Let air dry for a bit afterwards and aswell as after a shower x

Is there an odour? Mine wouldn’t heal at all as I struggled to get air to it and the midwife at home said it was fine so I just left it and tried to air it out when I could. A week later it was exactly the same and no improvement so I went to the GP who prescribed me an antibiotic cream that dried it right out and then it started healing very quickly after that. Hope this helps x

You can buy gel pads from boots to help with keeping your wound clean and also helps (when you’re starting to get up and about) clothes and things from irritating your scar. Never used them personally (I didn’t know they excited) but they’ have amazing reviews x
