I would caution using anything and see if he has CMPA first
A warm bath helped my little one when he was constipated. Also we was advised to give a small amount of cooled boiled water which helped too
Gripe water? We added it to every bottle.
I wouldn’t use laxative type things with a baby that young - definitely not!! The digestive track is still developing and I wouldn’t staff flushing things out. Why don’t you go back to the hospital you had the baby at if the GP is crap, lots of GPs aren’t that knowledgeable in niche areas. Our LO never had bad issues but we would add a drop of gripe water to the bottle. You need to find the route of the issue before you try anything else. If you can afford why don’t you go to a private paediatric doctor
Stick with the milk you have and don’t change again if can help it. Lots of tummy massages. Is he at korma stage or still pesto stage with poo? If korma then great! My girl only pooed every 1-2 days at that age but eventually went seedy around 7-14 days. We were told poo transition happen quicker if more milk is given, at that age would give a bit more liquid to help them through
My son was the same, he is 6 weeks old now. I saw the health visitor about it and she reassured me that it was common for them to strain as they are getting used to there digestive tract and system, they tense up when they need to go so they are tensing there pubic muscles which make it harder for them to go! Gripe water is NOT suitable for a baby this young; I got prescribed colief drops which helped massively!
Try not change milk as takes a while for them to adapt my girl was the same she’s now on colic and constipation milk , also rub a baby wipe around bum everytime u change nappy
@Becky I’ve kept him on colic and constipation milk, I’ve had a lot of people say about being allergic to cows milk protein, I’m not sure, he’s my first baby and i feel so bad for him. He’s at the korma stage with his poo, liquid as in milk or? Cooled boiled water? I’ve seen/heard mixed things about cooler water. He’s on the amount of milk it says on the back of the formula and has maintained weight but do you mean give him abit more to help him go or?
@Josee it’s awful! And yeah I thought that because it says over a month old so I’ve held off of giving it to him for now! And I’ll ask about the drops thankyou!
@Becky keep him on recommended amount unless he finishes all bottle and looks for more then it’s time to up the milk in terms of allergy look for rashes etc I’m currently in middle of my docs checking my girl for allergy as she got rashes and her pop isn’t like korma he should adjust just takes a while xx
@Claire great thankyou! I’ve heard mixed things about cooled water, some is saying it helps some not under 6 months. Loads have recommended it though so I might try that! He’s my first so no idea what to do to help him:( thankyou
Worst case scenario, you can use glycerin suppositories, but you need to be mindful that he is very young. An option to try is probiotic drops. In the meantime, I know that camomile has laxative effects, there is on amazon camomile satches suitable for newborns. Try that before you attempt suppositories. Alternatively, bedtime drops are on amazon they are from 3 months onwards, but I did use it in a pinch (not more than 3 drops!)
