Hiking with toddlers

Do y’all think it’s too soon to take my toddlers hiking with me? They are 3.5 and 5.I’m trying to be more active and I’d like to start hiking , the beginner trails ofc. I’m a sahm though and I’m with my kids literally all the time so I’m wondering if I should just take them with me.

I would've started taking them earlier, to be honest. My kiddo and I just went on our first hike. She was in a carrier most of the way, though, as it was steeper than expected. There are a couple of little hikes in my area that are almost completely flat and less than a half mile long, so I'd look for those ones. We haven't tried those ones, though, just because the roads have been closed off but my cousin did then with her under 2 year old and he walked the whole time

we’ve taken my daughter hiking since she was tiny! if you don’t have the all trails app i highly recommend it, it’s easy to find kid friendly trails

I hike often I do pretty strenuous hikes regularly. I’ve taken my kids all three on beginner easy hikes but it’s not really my thing at this age. I’ll wait until they get a little older perhaps 4 and older and are out of the toddler stage . When I did go on the hike with them it was with a moms group I personally wouldn’t take them by myself or without their father or someone else along with me to assist. I feel like 5 should be fine for beginner trails .but my 3 year old is presently a pain in the but at times 🫠so no thank you for me and him lol . If you’re 3 year old is pretty well behaved then it probably shouldn’t be an issue to do an easier hike with them

We took my kids hiking this summer. They were 1 and 2.5. My 2.5 year old walked most of the time. We stopped to play in the water and we didn’t hike far.

I've been hiking with my son since he was like...8? Months old! At first I had him in a front carrier, then upgraded to a backpack carrier! Now he's nearly 3 (in February) and when we hike, he walks (so now we have to do less strenuous hikes than before). My newborn went on her first hike at just 3 weeks old!!!

Last year, my son and I did a total of 70 hikes...most of them solo, just me and him ❤️ I was pregnant this year, so unfortunately we've only done a handful of hikes, but getting back into it now that baby is here!

I've been doing trails with my kids since they were babies! They love it just as much as I do!

I don’t think there is such thing as too young. You might slow down & take more breaks when their younger but it wouldn’t ruin anything
