Gave all mine before as advised by midwife, health visitor, nurse and Dr and I’m also a pharmacy technician. I do think this is a really controversial topic though as like above the lady is a nurse who wouldn’t do it! Google does also say not to do it is hard to know.
In all fairness though none of those professions are even trained to give baby immunisations so I would follow the advise of those that are. Check with your own nurse if it makes you feel better about your decision though. But a GP/Health Visitor/Midwife wouldn’t really have the best knowledge as they aren’t trained to do them or on the correct aftercare advice. We also have to check there are no signs of any existing infections which if paracetamol has been given already isn’t possible.
You can do it straight after the jabs or within 30 mins and the next dose 4-6 hours later and the third 4-6 hours after that. Any fever peaks about six hours after vaccination I read so not much point giving it before the vaccinations as calpol gets into the system very quickly and you want it to last as long as possible imo :) you do want to give it as a preventative to any fever soon after the jabs though
This is the official govt advice so I’d stick to that as opinions vary so much https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/menb-vaccine-and-paracetamol/using-paracetamol-to-prevent-and-treat-fever-after-menb-vaccination
We took the Calpol with us and the midwife administering the vaccines gave it to our little boy a few minutes before she gave him the jabs. Our health visitor also said to bring it with us to give it just before
We was told to give it, i didn't for my first 2 vaccinations because i wasn't sure but did for the last. Stops them feeling as much pain and gives a head start to the fever.
My girl had her jabs this morning. The nurse told me to give her a dose as soon as we get home, then a further 2 doses 4-6 hours apart.
I was always advised to give it before the injections but never did. I always give it straight after the injections to prevent any fever or pain during the rest of the day/evening x
Don’t give it before - im a nurse and give them myself and giving it before could mask a reaction to the vaccines. Take it with you and give it afterwards. Don’t wait to see if he’s poorly as he highly likely will get a temp if you don’t give it with the first vaccines and the nurse will advise you to give it for 24 hours to help prevent this
