Membrane sweep?

I’m considering a membrane sweep tomorrow as I’ll be 40+3, and I’m trying to avoid getting induced over the next week. If you’ve had one done, pls be honest did it hurt at all? And did it help start labor for you?

Yess doo itt! I was 40 weeks, and 2 days , and they planned to induce me at 41 weeks. I went to my appointment on Friday at 11:30, did the membrane sweep, (In my opinion it didn’t hurt at all, it felt like a cervical check), I went home and started having cramping at around 3:00, and they just picked up, all through out the night… I went to the hospital at 10 am on Saturday at 6cm dilated, and had him at 6:10 😆

It was just really uncomfortable, I did end up going into labour within the next couple days and I was 39 weeks

Hi! I had one on the 11th. I also wanted to avoid getting induced. They checked my cervix and said I was 2cm dilated, but I had been that way for a few weeks with no progress. So I did a membrane sweep at 4pm on monday. I won't lie, it hurts quite a bit, but it only lasted like 10 to 15 seconds. I think it was manageable and I would do it again if I had to. I started feeling light period cramps almost immediately after and at 1am on the 12th I woke up feeling intense cramping, by 4am, I knew we were in active labor and we headed to the hospital. I was 4cm dilated at that point and they admitted me. My little girl was born at 12:08 on the 13th via c section. We gave a vaginal birth a good try, I had dilated all the way to 10cm, without any induction intervention. No folly balloon, pitocin, etc...but she just didn't want to come out. So c section was the only option for us.

Good luck to you. You got this! And no matter what happens, the end result is all that matters. A happy and healthy mama and baby!

I did a sweep at 41 weeks exactly. I think my Dr didn't do it nicely bc it hurt SO much. I'm still glad I did it. I had it done at 9 am and contractions started 5pm that day, and full labor contractions started 1:30pm the following day. I birthed her exactly 12 hours later. I highly recommend it even if you're afraid it will hurt, childbirth is no picnic either. Good luck!!

It was uncomfortable for me. I didn’t get one with this baby, but with my first, I had the sweep and felt contractions that same day. Had my May 2022 baby the next day!

I had 6 with my first and none of them worked. I had one with my second after a cervical check and went into labour 6 hours after.
