Ahhh I’m currently in for an induction at 39 weeks, I have the 24 hour pessary in and waiting… please give me some positive induction stories to let me know they’re not all bad 😭 also I’m absolutely petrified of having a cannula in my hand - please tell me they aren’t that bad 🥲😭🤣

To be honest, I had a really positive induction and it was my no 1 thing to avoid in my birth plan! Admitted for reduced movements and Pessary was fitted 5pm Wednesday with my cervix completely closed. Contractions started at 7pm coming 3 in every 10 mins but not very strong, they spread out a little through the night and became more consistent but further apart. Then on Thursday evening, after the 24 hours, pessary was removed and I was 3cm. Taken to labour ward Friday morning and waters were broken 12pm and hormones drip given at 2pm. Our little girl was here by 7pm with only 50mins of pushing… I used the tens machine and wooden comb and paracetamol whilst being induced then went on to have dihydrocodeine on the Thursday night after over 24 hours of contractions so I could get some sleep as the next step was her arrival and then just gas and air and dihydrocodeine whilst in active labour… the gas and air was really good for regulating and concentrating on my breathing!

@Sammie oh that sounds amazing! I’m yet to have contractions, had the pessary in about 11 hours so far ❤️what is dihydrocodine? Was the cannula bad for the hormone drip? Xx

Honestly, it was great - I had in my original birth plan that I didn’t want continuous monitoring however looking back now, I think it actually made me a little more relaxed knowing that she was ok at all times! It’s just a type of stronger pain relief but just helped me get a little respite through the contractions when they were coming thick and fast! People say that induction makes your labour loud painful but I’ve never given birth before so had nothing to compare too but honestly, it’s short term pain for long term gain for sure! The cannula was fine!!! I’m a really difficult person for giving blood as I have really small wiggly veins so they had to have a couple of goes but it really didn’t hurt at all! and once it’s in you don’t even think about it anymore!

The only thing I would say i found difficult when they first put it in was I kept getting tangled in the gas and air and the drip and I kept moving positions but once I had it in for an hour or so I learnt how to move with it in 😂

@Sammie oh my gosh thank you so much that’s so reassuring ❤️

Both my inductions were positive, i had one on wednesday baby was here thursday morning. Not gonna lie I didn't like the cannula either just don't look 🙈 Didn't hurt that much but it's not a nice feeling. Good luck 🥰

I had a really positive induction 12 days ago and avoided having a cannula! I’m really hard to get a cannula in so I made a big point about it in my birth plan but never needed one this time round. My advice is to tell them you’re worried about it and ask for an anaesthetist to put it in rather than a midwife or nurse, and get them to put a bandage round it to keep it covered.

I also had a very positive induction experience 💚 2x 6hrs pessaries, waters were broken, epidural + oxytocin drip. Very straight forward vaginal birth 😊
