Birth story

My 3rd baby boy, Leighton born 16th November at 5.36am 🥰🩵 Unfortunately I didn’t get a home birth as planned as my homebirth team was already attending a ladies birth and they’re still quite a small team, either way I still had a very positive beautiful birth in a sanctuary suite at the hospital but I only just got there in the nick of time! 😂 From around 38+5w, I had start stop contractions every day. At my 40w midwife appointment, I decided to accept a sweep and at that moment in time my cervix was soft but still long and 1-2cm dilated. Nothing really happened after until I got to 40+4 and start to loose my mucus plug that morning. I went to sleep that night feeling a little bit under the weather, my body felt tired and kind of like I was coming down with an illness such as off stomach and not having much appetite. I went to sleep that night around 9pm, still feeling very mild on off contractions I’d been feeling every day. I woke up at 2.30am with a contraction that was a lot more intense so l stayed awake and started to time them, they was coming every 10 minutes for about 40 minutes. Then they decided to ramp up, I was getting more intense contractions every 3-5 minutes and had to start breathing through them. I called the midwife’s who told me they unfortunately couldn’t attend to me as my partner was about to start preparing the birth pool, I was then advised to go to the hospital and call them to let them know I was coming in. At that moment I felt disappointed but also excited that my baby boy was on his way and I just took it with a pinch of salt and stayed positive. I called my dad and he made his way to my house to watch my children who was still asleep in bed oblivious. My dad arrived around 4.30am and around 20 mins later my contractions went to around 20-30 seconds apart and was extremely intense. We left my house at 4.55am as I knew I didn’t have a lot of time 😂😅 luckily the hospital is down the road and we got there within 5 minutes. I dragged myself down the corridor down to the labour suite, stopping every 20 seconds holding onto whatever I could to breathe through. We got to the room and the midwife’s started to run the pool and check me over, I was stood over the bed breathing in and out for my life then suddenly I starting baring down and I was transitioning with my bottom half and shoes still on 😂 I knew it wasn’t going to be much longer and got into the pool at 5.15am and was handed the gas and air which I was soooo ready for 😓 contractions were constant and my body pushed and pushed until my baby boy was born at 5.36am 😍 weighing 8lbs 9oz, my biggest boy! I did suffer labial grazes and a 2nd degree tear that needed a few stitches as he came out very quickly, but over all it was such a positive experience and all the hospital staff were such angels 😘
