How mild is mild?

When people say contractions feel like “mild period-type pains”, how mild can they be? I’m 1cm dilated from my last sweep and I’ve had on and off very mild period pains with a tight tummy but honestly so mild I can barely notice them. I have had very painful periods in the past, so not sure if I am just expecting worse? 😅 There’s no consistency but just would love to know how you knew you were in labour for the first time… I know it’s a case of “you’ll just know” but help a girl out, she needs some hope at 41 weeks 😂

I knew from the first contraction with my first two because it was a very defined feeling, like a rubber band tightening around my stomach for about 30 seconds then easing off. It did start like mild period pain. I'm in the hospital being induced with my third and it's been totally different, I've been having contractions all day and haven't even felt most of them. Only knew I was having them earlier because they showed up on the monitor. So there's always the possibility of a curveball 😅

I didn’t know I was in labour on Friday, started getting cramps about 6 inconsistent when I was going around the shops, then about 8 started getting worse my waters went by 9 and baby was here by 11:49, I’d get a contraction counter, even if you think it’s just small cramps time then and just means you can track them x

I have period pains so bad I can't walk sometimes and often can't talk through them. On the Wednesday I had irregular contractions that were not painful in the slightest (they stopped in the evening), on the Thursday I had more consistent contractions but again didn't come close to period pains, I could walk and talk through them (again stopped in the evening). On the Friday I was put on the drip and although I had an epidural after about 4 hrs that was more due to my chronic pain and leg spasms than the actual contractions. However, later on as the epidural wore off I was having to use gas and air to get through the contractions while waiting for the doctor to comeback and give a top up of the epidural to get it fully effective again. At that point I wouldn't have been able to walk or talk through them and I would say they were then worse than period pains
