Paternity leave

My partner can only take two weeks unpaid maternity leave. I wondered how everyone navigated this? It’s extra money strain but I want him home for those first two weeks 😭

Are you UK based? Is he eligible for statutory paternity pay?

Mine had saved his PTO knowing he’d be needed when baby was coming so he hadn’t taken any vacations the year she was born until that week. He was home for 2 weeks after LO was born

We were in the same boat, we just had to make do. If financially you really need him to go back to work, I’d see whether any friends or relatives can come and stay to support you.

We set money aside to plan ahead. Also didn't have to worry about as many groceries since I was eating in the hospital lol

mine saved his annual leave during the year and used that instead of the 2 weeks. we couldn’t afford the pay drop if he was to go on paternity so the plan to save and use annual leave just made more sense for us

We had same issue as my husband changed jobs and wasn’t eligible. Which is ridiculous but never mind. He took 2 weeks annual leave

My husband took one week holiday and one week unpaid to lessen the blow!

Mine had 2 weeks statutory paternity leave and then took 2 weeks of holiday

At least he has some leave 🥲

My husband saved his annual leave and just took a week as it was Christmas shortly after where he also had a weeks leave. This time around he's saving annual leave again

My husband has 2 weeks paid paternity leave from his job. But the rest, he’s gonna have to apply through the states.
