Sudden evening crying

Has anyone else had this or has any idea what it could be? My 3 month old who hasn't been a big crier at all has suddenly started inconsolable evening crying following being put in his cot. I've tried googling it and all of the results are about colic ending at 3 months - it's like the opposite has happened! We're sort of transitioning to earlier bedtimes as it's the right age for it and he seems very tired in the evenings but otherwise I can't work out what's changed to upset him.

Sounds like you may be getting in to the 4 month sleep regression. Welcome 😬

Been having the same issue. The last 4 days shes been crying a lot more than usual and yesterday night she cried for hours. I called 111 today and they said likely stomach cramps, to give her infacol and calpol and advised if she cries more than an hour non stop to take her into the hospital. Ive been a wreck since all this and Ive been lacking the energy to comfort her at her worst, its been awful. Got my mum coming today to stay over and help as Im at my wits end 😓

@Ellie haha thanks! Do you think that it can also explain evening unsettledness?

@Serena thanks for your reply! I've been wondering if it's some kind of pain but it's really just at bedtime, is it the same for you? I read that if you suspect teething you can give them Calpol and if it helps you can assume that they were in some pain.

Could it be they are teething?

My baby is def more grizzly at bedtime and harder to get to sleep. I am wondering if now she can see better, and take in more, she is getting over stimulated. I have started taking her upstairs for wuiet time much earlier - say an hour before bedtime. I think it’s helped a little

@Sarah I've considered that but I can't see any redness etc. Will monitor though as I have read that their gums hurt more when lying down (bit like adult tooth pain)

@Hollie thanks a lot. We were also wondering whether it's because he's fighting sleep more now he's interested in looking at things. Will try your suggestion, thank you!

@Paige Ye mainly at bedtime. It was only today she was crying from the morning so called 111. Ye they said for me calpol will help with tummy pain too. I checked her gums and Im not sure shes teething but others in my family think it could be, but the tummy pain is definite I think from her symptoms like stiffness then bending legs and arching x

My son 15 weeks and he has become very unsettled between 4pm to 2 am and he refuses feeding! Does anybody else struggling with feeding as well?
