Urin Test at Home

Hi 🙋🏻‍♀️ just a quick question I’ve done a urine test at home because on my last midwife appointment it was showing proteins so wanted to double check but now shows no proteins but high in leukocytes is that normal in pregnancy? Can I call triage for that for a more accurate urin sample? All my urine test been fine since pregnant (36weeks)

Leucocytes and nitrates are more signs of infection.

Okay I have no symptoms at all if it is urin infection. Nitrite is fine

UTIs can sometimes be asymptomatic mine was

I had a routine urine test today and they’ve found high Leukocytes and I have been prescribed antibiotics for possible infection. I’m also 36 weeks and mine have all so far been ok until today. Maybe call them and get some advice?

@Jen okay will make another appointment with the midwife as sometimes home tests are not accurate. Aren’t antibiotics bad for the baby though? 😫

Yes same here, I had a UTI apparently with zero symptoms so only found oht at my midwife appointment. I’d call and get it checked as you may need antibiotics and a follow up urine test

Antibiotics for UTIs are safe for pregnancy but it isn’t safe to leave the UTI untreated. Thats why they test for it so frequently

The ones they use for this are perfectly safe

Out of interest, how long did you leave the test for? Leukocytes should typically be read at 1.5 minutes. Beyond this time it often changes colour but doesn't count as it's beyond the time for reading. My midwife left the test too long once and it came up positive but I had nothing and I have strips at home and see the same thing. The strips should give an indication of when to read each part. Typically between 30 seconds to 1.5 mins.
