I pump after she eats. It's not always alot but it adds up
I also would like to know
Hi! I’m going back to work in January and EBF. I usually pump in the mornings after the 4 or 5 am feed, usually it is when I get more l. And then sometimes I’ll pump an hour after a feed, but my baby goes 2.5-4 hours without a feeding, so usually my supply has come back after I pumped. Hope that helps you
Same here! And how many times a day should you pump when EBF? After every feed?
I EBF and usually pump after she eats during the day, if she doesn’t eat for long. I also make MOTN pumps a priority, since I’m most engorged. So our schedule goes a little something like this 8pm - feed & pump. She’ll sleep 3-4 hrs straight and I’ll wake her around 12am - feed & pump. 330 & 7am feed & pump. It’s tiring but it’s when I produce the most so missing out makes a huge difference. I also power pump once a day. I have a nice little freezer stash going because of this, definitely not an over producer but enough to feed her while I’m gone.
I suggest you just pump as much as you can, so after every feed and MOTN pumps would be ideal. The more you stimulate your breasts the more you’re telling your body that you need to produce more. You might not see results right away but you’ll get there if you stick to it!
@Gina what does MOTN stand for? I’ve thought about pumping as much as I can but I’m worried if I do that I’ll have to pump or feed like every 2 hours or something and being able to go anywhere or do anything I don’t want that to be the case ya know? But I’m not sure I can have it both ways
@Melissa sorry should’ve added- middle of the night. But yes that’s what I do, every 2 hrs I’ll latch her even if she doesn’t eat much. It’s definitely exhausting, I don’t have more than 2hrs to myself. But it’s what has worked for me. I’m hoping once my supply is more regulated I won’t have to do it anymore but my daughters only 3wks old so I still have some time..
Pumping a lot can be extra work when you’re breastfeeding around the clock, and I’ve heard can cause an oversupply, so for me I just pump 1X a day in between feeds and it’s been slowly creating a supply for us. I have my husband do one shift at night with the bottle now so I can get a more solid chunk of sleep and it’s a lifesaver! If you’re not opposed to using a tiny bit of formula you could also do formula feed 1X a day and pump during that time to build a supply quicker without having to pump late night. Just what’s worked for me!
I was on the same boat and visited a lactation consultant for this. She recommended pumping once a day and slowly starting to introduce a bottle so baby can get used to it. I’ve found it challenging to pump because I have a Velcro baby, but I’ve started doing it during her wake periods at least 3 times a week (when she’s on a play mat, swing or bouncer). I also go back to work in January, so trying to start building my stash!
From the time she was little I did a morning power pump right after breakfast and at 3 weeks I was able to stop the power pump but I have to pump almost as soon as i wake up to keep myself from leaking especially throughout the day. This one pump for me yields 6-8oz and this is with me chest feeding little one all night. We did have to introduce one feed of formula for health reasons so we feed her that before bed and I try and pump then too if not I will pump after her first middle of the night feed
For my first baby I would feed off one boob then pump the other one. I had a frozen stash started and never used it because once I went back to work, I just used what I pumped that day for the next days feedings for baby. So I never ended up needing to use my frozen stash at all. Not sure if you’re planning on pumping at work but that worked really well! Then baby gets fresh milk. Plus you’ll want to freeze and unfreeze some right now to check and make sure your milk isn’t high lipase, which some babies won’t drink because of the taste.
@Marla luckily I am going to be able to work from home so I should be able to feed him normally but I would love to be able to have my husband do a night feed every now and then, or have a girls night or just something!! 😅 thank you to all the ladies who have posted! I guess I’ll start by trying to pump once during the day when I think he will be asleep for the longest amount of time. Thinking of staying awake even longer during the MOTN (😉@Gina ) feed after it already takes me an hour or longer to feed him and get him back down just sounds so exhausting but if I end up needing to do that I will!
@Marla when you would feed on one side and pump the other, would you then feed him off the side you pumped and there was still enough milk? Or would you only feed off one side per feeding?

@Melissa no because he would usually be satisfied just off the one side so that’s why I started pumping the other one. But for the next feeding I would have him eat off the side I pumped and then pump the other side
@Marla ok makes sense!
Same! Would love to know if anyone has tips on this!
