Universal credit

I’m currently out of work, but hoping to secure something part time in Feb when baby joins nursery. I haven’t had any income since Jan 2023 when my contract ended except for my child benefit. My husband works maybe around 45k a year, does a lot of overtime that he’s paid extra for and will then do some Uber work on days off. We don’t rent as we live with his mum but he does cover all the bills, groceries, and then most of our outgoings really goes to maintenance like car, and then a lot of debt/loan. I never applied for UC even though I am struggling so much financially because someone told me I wouldnt get anything because of husbands work but I’m willing to just apply and see. Even £200 a month would make a huge difference to me. Imagine being almost 40 and not even being able to afford buying some winter joggers! Anyway, I just wanted to know if husband has to be present at job centre regularly to show earnings for UC to be paid through, this what this person told me and because of his work commitments, he would absolutely not be able to do that. It seems quite bizarre but wanted to know before filling it all out? Thank you

UC find out his earnings through HMRC. If he's earning enough he won't be required to go in regularly for meetings

@Laurie ah I see, so regular meetings are for people who earn below a certain amount, thank you

Yes. If he earnt below a certain amount he'd need to work search and attend meetings

If you don’t pay for a rent I really doubt you’ll get something. But give a try
