Are you taking your toddler to parks in this weather?

It seems like a stupid question I know, but I was wondering if anyone else was taking their toddler out in this weather…Since the temperature dropped, I’ve only taken her out in the pram for errands or the nursery run where she and is wrapped up all cosy. It’s absolutely freezing - but I feel like it’s unfair that I’m not taking her to the park just to go on the swings or run around a little bit. My parents say I should limit her being outside as she will get sick…but she gets sick from being at nursery regardless. I’m sure if she’s wrapped up warm and it’s not extreme weather like rain or snow it’s fine?? I’ve been recommended soft play which I’m yet to do as the one in my area is very ran down and dirty. Other than parks or visiting family who are somewhat nearby there’s absolutely nothing to do in my town and would have to go into London (which is a very big hassle if I’m on my own with her as I need to use trains/buses). Have you guys let your toddlers out in this cold or is it completely outrageous?

No we’re still going out 🙂. As long as they’re dressed appropriately it’s perfectly fine. Plus the fresh air has many health benefits! He’s been wearing a snow suit this week as it has dropped a lot in temperature. Footless with his wellies but he’s more than happy to be running about. He loves the rain too, just laughs and points at it 🤣 so I think we’d only stay in if it was torrential or super windy. just think that there’s countries that get way colder than ours and I’m sure they don’t keep their kids In all winter x

@Amelia I love this! I was thinking the same thing but my parents are quite paranoid and are saying I should keep their “little girl” indoors unless it’s for errands or nursery. They’re acting like I’m just going to throw her in a park with just a nappy on during a storm😂😂. It’s odd though because I do recall photos of me as a toddler out in the snow so I’m not sure what all the fuss is about haha 🤔😂 I know they mean well but I’m literally thinking what’s the harm if they’re really wrapped up warm and we’re near home so we can go back easily?

I take mine to the park in this weather, just make sure he’s dressed appropriately. I’m of Latvian Canadian descent - their winters are far colder than ours and kids still go out!

Also just to add, being outside doesn’t make them sick. Coming into contact with viruses, germs etc makes them sick.

@Rebecca I think this country is a tad dramatic nowadays haha. I thought the same thing but then I was like wait it’s okay, people have it a lot colder than us!

As above we still go out, my mum lives in Sweden and even there in the snow we get out just making sure we wear the appropriate gear and off we go! I don’t think I could stop my little one from getting out he loves it that much 😂😂 more chance of them getting sick at a soft play than at the park in my opinion 😖

@Bianca I agree! X

yes she still goes out on walks layered up. going outside reduces getting sick in winter. getting sick from the cold is a myth germs cause illness and they are all inside. thats why we get sick in the winter because we dont go outside as much. much more likely to get ill from soft play than a park!

I totally agree with most of your comments. It is good for them to be out and about. I have lately have been taking my little one out a lot more.

I’m still taking mine out just wrapped up warm. Wellies, snowsuit, hat and gloves x
