Very true. Look at the company teachers SPL it’s a pink site. It’s like 60 or 70 quid and they’ll do all the forms. Work out what leave to take when. Basically getting the max amount of mat leave.
I did similar to you (finished 23rd April) and started doing ShPL for summer hols so I had to end my maternity leave, missing out on some of the 50% pay, but instead got full pay for the 6 weeks then started on ShPL from September which would have been similar to going onto statutory maternity pay at that time anyway. I think it worked out that I'd be better off to have the full pay for 6 weeks.
I went off last year at this time and did this. It depends on your schools SPL policy. I still got the same amount for maternity pay but also 9 weeks extra pay. My HR gave me estimates for different scenarios. I also split my pay over 52 weeks so I get something every month. Happy to send any info over if you need any help x
Can’t use your SPL until you go onto SMP. If you use your SPL before you start your SMP you forfeit any enhanced pay.
