If someone invites you out to eat, who pays?

It’s always been my understanding that if someone invites me out to eat- I’m still expected to pay for my meal. Unless the person specifically says “my treat” or “on me/I’m paying” somewhere in the invitation, they are just inviting me out to share a meal with them and not necessarily to pay for my meal as well. This includes dates, friends, family etc. I’m learning however that this is not how everyone thinks. So do you expect someone to pay for your meal if they ask you out?

No I don't expect them to I always expect to go half if anything but I come from a family that does not think this way lol. Family of origin stuff is that if you ask then you pay I just don't live my life that way

For me, when a guy asked me out on a date I’m used to them paying. But out to dinner with my friends or family usually everyone would just pay for themselves. Just my experience.

I hit no but let me specify I mean no for family/friends. If it’s a man that’s interested/im talking to/a date etc then I’m not paying.

If family takes us out 99% of the time they pay so we kind of expect it at this point. With friends I always expect to pay for myself unless it’s my birthday then I’m hopeful 😂

Unless it’s a DATE, I’m paying my own way. If I initiate the invite for a date, same applies, I would pay.

I’m so sick of this honestly. Why do people assume that people pay for YOUR meal?! Not once have I ever been invited out and expected my friend or family or even partner to pay for me. It’s ridiculous🤦🏼‍♀️
