Metal cutlery

I see a couple of videos that at 1 they should be using metal cutlery… My LO won’t even feed herself using plastic let alone trying metal. Does anyone have any tips of how to get her to start holding her cutlery without launching it or using it as a drum stick instead of using it to eat 🫣

Is this really a thing? My baby is nowhere near being able to use cutlery herself, not heard anything about using metal? I'd say just go with your baby, they'll do it eventually with more and more exposure but I wouldn't assume it's common at 1 to be able to feed themselves with cutlery (not to say there aren't ones that do so)

I’ve never heard of this however my LB does now have metal cutlery. He started refusing his silicon spoons until I gave him a teaspoon so just made the switch. He will only feed himself once I’ve loaded the spoon but he has tried a couple of times to do it himself. Just keep trying with loading the spoon/fork and leave it for her to reach. It’s quite normal for them to be exploring with them and using their hands the majority of the time for food.

Mine also is on a metal spoon but she personally just liked it better and it was easier for me as I had many to dirty haha, mine also can’t feed herself though, she’s one and I have to load up the spoon getting her attention and showing her what’s on the spoon and then she can bring it to her mouth and she can eat with her hands but that’s it

My girl is not close to feeding herself well yet 😂 but I now sometimes use the metal toddler ones as she has food that needs it more now. She’s very good and prefers the size of them. Got some cute ones with caterpillar handles, really good for gripping !

I’m just worried with metal she will end up stabbing herself 🫣🫣🫣

I think these videos you’ve seen aren’t helpful! As long as your LO is eating everything else they will get there in their own time ♥️

@Hollie this is the problem with a lot of social media. I see LOs eating proper meals and mine still is a picky eater. She tries most things but definitely wouldn’t sit there eating a proper meal.
