Should I feel guilty?

My mom moved to be close to me & my kids. Which is great. I truly love having her around. But she doesn’t have a support system here (aside from me & my kids) & doesn’t want one. No friends, she doesn’t work, no other family close by. These are her choices, she could work or get out & meet people if she wanted to. As a result I’m her only companion & socialization. My spouse & I have had a really hard month. Everyone has been either sick or injured. And we’re all just starting to get better. But as a result I haven’t seen my mom in a week bc it’s been intense. When we go a couple days without seeing her I feel immense guilt bc I know she’s spent all of those days alone. And I don’t love inviting people over when I don’t feel well. So it feels like I have to choose between my comfort or hers. My question is - should I feel guilty when we don’t see her for a few days? Or should I be making more of an effort? During our “normal” routine we see her on average about three times a week.

Maybe go to bingo with her or something she enjoys doing and kind of encourage her to meet new people.

@Courtney I’ve offered! She says she’s not at all interested in meeting people

This sounds like it is her decision so no you shouldn't feel guilty. I would probably do exactly the same as her if I could. Is she saying things that are making you feel guilty or is this self imposed?

You should be blunt with her and tell her that you feel pressure to be her only friend. And while you love having her there and being with her, you would like some peace of knowing she isn’t bored and sitting in her house alone because you haven’t talked to her

Don’t feel guilty . That will only harm her. She’s there to help u so the happier u are the happier she is. Try calling her and explain what’s happening.

Is she happy being alone? Some people are genuinely happy with their routine at home by themselves

Maybe she secretly loved having a whole week to herself 🤷🏻‍♀️
