IUD or mini pill

Hello, I went to the local sex clinic to get a copper iud fitted yesterday but the nurse scared me as I am EBF and there is a higher risk for breastfeeding women to have a perforation if getting any iud fitted. So she suggested the mini pill for the time I breastfeed. The problem is, I dislike the pill. I used to be on Yasmine more than 12 years ago and gave it up as my mood was a mess... I had the copper iud fitted in the past and it was ok, just longer periods. I got home with this mini pill but I haven't started it yet as I am doing additional research on the copper iud and breastfeeding, post partum. I am 11 weeks post partum. Anyone here that has experience with either method? Thanks

That’s interesting, did she give you any information on it or reasoning as to why it can cause complications? I was just recommended the coil by my doctor who knows in breastfeeding and wasn’t any mention of that xx

It's slightly higher risk but still really rare

@Laura no info from the nurse but if you Google it you will see there was a study that confirmed a higher risk like 1 in 1000 so as Vikki said very small. But this nurse said that at the hospital she used to work before they wouldn't allow iud before 6 months post partum so she felt she needed to mention this to me. I have another friend who got it fitted at 8 weeks post partum and she has been breastfeeding too .. she is now almost 11 months post partum and is doing fine. Her gynecologist also did not mention this to her

Maybe this nurse was just not very confident in her abilities to fit the coil 😅

Good to know, thank you! Xx
