Eczema

Any advice on what I can do for eczema on my little one. I’ve tried a lot of different creams, soap alternatives but nothing helps apart from steroid cream from the dr. I don’t want to keep using that as it’s so strong. Ideally I’ll like to find out what is causing the flare up. It seems to get worse when she’s in bed, and she’s taken to lying faced down in bed. Well last night she rubbed her face so much on the sheets there was blood on them. The poor thing! The eczema is worse on her cheeks. Everywhere else is managed, like in her legs and arms. She gets a very itch belly and chest though but that seems to be ok now. Dr had said a blood test, but it means going to hospital to find out what the allergy might be. Here is a picture of first thing this morning. This is the worse it’s been.

I was recommended Zeroderm. And Aveeno. But tbh I think if you can it’s worth finding out what’s causing it. Hope she gets better soon poor thing

My daughter has it in the exact same place cheeks and neck area but nowhere else. She also rubs at it like crazy in the night causing it to become much worse. She has had a few instances where it is worse after food so my concern in an allergy.

Aveeno baby dermexa is the only lotion that works for us. Oat baths every other evening - no soap. Cotton only clothing, blankets and bedding for everyone. Fairy non-bio Lo also has an egg and dairy allergy. The eczema calmed down a little after I removed these from my diet. We saw the paediatric allergist recently. They did the skin prick test which came up negative, but apparently that doesn’t mean they don’t have allergies. It just means that any allergies don’t manifest themselves by way of hives. Sending lots of love. I know how gut wrenching it is watching them so uncomfortable, especially at night. I found that at night, my little one would scratch his face but that wasn’t necessarily where the itch was. I think he just scratched face at bedtime because it’s the only body part he can get to. I found by rubbing other parts of his body for example, legs, arms back, Sometimes he would stop scratching his face because I had actually found and soothed the real itch. Xx

Epaderm and bathing my daughter every night has helped x

@Siân oh really. I’ve been avoiding too many baths. Maybe that’s the problem.

@Kyhane how do you do oat baths?

Pop some oats into a small hole laundry bag or similar so they don’t come out in the bath. Put in the bath and squeeze to release the oats milk. Let baby soak in there for 5-10mins. Really soothing my boy - hope it works for you if you give it ago. So frustrating how there isn’t a one fits all remedy for eczema x

@Kyhane thanks. I think I should try it.

I used to also avoid baths but where I have to cream my boy 6/8 times a day his skin was just caked in emollients. I think this ended up being more of an irritant. Find washing regularly is more soothing and as long as you replace the moisture lost in the bath - it can work well x

My baby has it bad and I thought the same but when you think about it, we are just putting cream over cream and trapped the bacteria

Oilatum in the bath works for my little one. And maybe try using different fabric detergent as that can irritate the skin. We use Ecover Zero and seems to be the only thing not irritating

I’ve used coconut oil and this has worked well for sore skin x
