base*

Yeahhhhh… is that weird? In an apt and In a townhome (basically apt lol)

White sealant stuff round ours

@Asha Its not weird! I feel like it should be done, my apartment toilets aren't and I might see about them doing it lol. I just wondered if I was the odd one out or maybe apartments just don't do that??

If you do caulk around the base leave a small bit at the back un caulked so you can see if your seal is leaking. In my experience most places do have caulking around the toilets.

No in a house -well actually looking closer it is

My apartment toilet isn’t

I actually looked this up recently because our sellers did everything wrong in this house. Its apparently supposed to be caulked. Ours is notđź«

My dad's a plumber, he always says never to caulk your toilet, because 1) you won't be able to tell if it's leaking until water leaks through your floor, and 2) if you have to replace the wax seal (which can happen a few times per toilet), the whole thing has to get redone and it messes up your floor.

Never caulk around your toilet yall!!

@Naomi why

According to our builders it's supposed to be done with silicone caulk and ours is

@Sally so you know when the seal is messed up and it’s leaking. If it’s caulked it can rot the floor without you ever knowing. If you do caulk you’re supposed to leave a portion uncaulked.

@Naomi yeah just leave the back not caulked as above and be great
