I had three with my first pregnancy, all uncomfortable and did absolutely nothing for me 🙃
i’m 37+5 and currently admitted into induction suite for various reasons. i have been here 3 hours, had a scan, exam, sweep as already dilated a bit and pessary is in place, i’m already getting cramping and i lost the rest of my mucus plug 20 mins after my sweep xx
The first one I wasn’t dilated enough for it to do much of anything. I think we tried again at 39 weeks again nothing. 3rd one I did at 40wks when I was more open. I had the baby next day I think it helped but not by that much. It’s uncomfortable maybe a few cramps after. They won’t do them unless you are dilated. I labored mostly at home for 12 hours had baby boy after 7mins of pushing all natural 😊 avoided my induction by a day it was scheduled at 40+2 👏 I would at least have them check your dilation and cervix the sweep at least opened me up and got things moving
@Olivia sounds exciting, I’m still on the lookout for my mucus plug. I’m like a hawk looking for it 🤣 Wishing you all the best though, I bet you can’t wait for little one to finally be here xx
@Leah honestly mine was NOT how people make out! it was entirely clear, literally looked like the gel they use for ultrasounds but thicker!!! no blood or colour at all, to the point i didn’t know it was my plug! lost a fair bit over weekend thinking was discharge, then when i had my sweep today, she said i lost my plug and when i saw its identical to what ive been “shedding”! so don’t just be looking for the blood stained snot people tell you to look for!!! i am so so so nervous but very excited! he’s estimated 9lb 1oz at 36+5 and was gaining 1lb a week so today estimated at 10lb! hence why hes been served his eviction notice🫣xx
I had a sweep yesterday morning at 39+6, it was definitely uncomfortable but I wouldnt say painful. I was 2cm then, and I went into labour that evening, baby was born at 1am 🙂 x
1st sweep at 40+4 & it didn’t hurt, just a little uncomfortable when high in the cervix, they said 1cm… 2nd one booked for tomorrow (41 weeks) with hope of some progress otherwise induction happening at 41+4!
I'm in a similar position I was offered a sweep at 37 weeks but declined and have another appointment at 40 weeks. I'll be 39 weeks tomorrow and had hoped for everything to happen as naturally as possible, but I'm now coming to terms with the fact that it might not go that way. I'm also wondering whether having a sweep affects the experience of labour itself. Aside from the sweep potentially being painful, does it make labour more painful overall? And could it change how labour might have progressed if the sweep hadn’t been done? Hope that makes sense
First one, I was 1cm dilated and it didn’t hurt, was just uncomfortable. Second one, I felt violated and that one did hurt at 2cm dilated. But I did go in to labour that night
