IUI is it worth it?

So after two and a half years of trying for our second child, and four losses along the way, may husband has finally managed to get an appointment to get his sperm tested. (Don't get me started on why it's taken so long, it is not for lack of asking on our part, let's just leave it there). We are still trying but with little sucess in conceiving just now let alone staying pregnant. I am beginning to loose hope. However, I am wondering what anyone thoughts are on IUI? For example if my husbands results come back as having sperm quality issues, is this something we could fix with IUI? Does anyone have any experience with this? Then if you do, any recommendations of good clinics, as this would be our second child NHS funded IUI is out the question (I belive? If you know of a loop hole let me know). Sp would need to be a private clinic. We are based in Scotland. PS today should be the first day or my period, it didn't come. Queue hope!!! Then did HCG test and negative....so not just waiting to period to come and cycle to start all over again. So its a low day for me today.feelind raw 😢

I know that if there are mild sperm quality issues IUI can sometimes help especially if things like motility or count are borderline. It’s not always a fix if the issues are more severe, but it could be a next step depending on the results. It might also be worth looking into whether a bit of sperm prep or supplements could improve things before IUI

You can improve sperm quality through improving diet, exercise and taking supplements. The book ‘It starts with the egg’ also covers how to improve sperm quality. My husband and I have both changed our diets and started taking supplements since our miscarriage to improve sperm and egg quality for the next time we try x

You’re conceiving so that’s a good sign. When I went to my private clinic after 2 losses and enquired about IUI with normal sperm they said there’s no point it’s going to be the same chance for you as you can naturally conceive. They said IUI is only recommended if you aren’t conceiving at all and there are mild issues. The fertility clinic I went to was CREATE in London they were great they have several branches around the UK.

Thanks for all your responses. I should have said, that we are doing all the supplements as recommended from "its starts with the egg", and have changed some of our diet etc. As well, so hoping we are covered from that angle. Though some dietary/lifestyle changes are more difficult than others. Though we are trying where possible. In terms of conceiving, we have only managed four times in 2 and a half years despite, trying every month (when I've not been pregnant), feel like this isn't very often tbh. We test for ovulation and ensure as well as tryingbthrough the month, that we definitely hitting those key dates 😭😭. Interesting that, maybe IUI is only useful if mild issues with sperm....maybe that is where we fit, since as you can see we can rarely get pregnant. Maybe on those occasions the sperm has been slightly better quality and my eggs have been too?? Can I ask what you have done instead and has it been sucessful for you?

I am going to look into the CREATE clinic. As I like the idea of somewhere that's honest about it not working (if thats the case), rather than just taking our money and going with it anyway because we are desperate.

IUI is worth it if there are mild male factor sperm issues. Such as motility, morphology, or counts. It puts the sperm directly where it needs to be. I think it's worth it as my last IUI worked for me but I had a chemical miscarriage, just did another round Saturday. For people with unexplained infertility and PCOS, mild sperm issues it's worth it. Lots of appointments and bloodwork between your start of period and ovulation though.

Thank-you! Will see what the sperm analysis comes back with, see where we go from there. Xx

@Incognito sorry to hear about you MC. Though fingers crossed for this round. Dx
