Hormonal Coil

I’m due to get the hormonal coil fitted at the end of this month and I’m so nervous about getting it. Please can people share their experiences and advice with getting it fitted and afterwards ☺️

I had it fitted at the end of March, 2 months after I gave birth and it was so fine! I didn't even feel them putting it in and I had the mildest cramps for like 2 days. I've been bleeding and spotting sporadically since, but really light. You got this, hope you have the same experience as me 😊

Ive had 2 put in before having a baby so my cervix had never dilated before. It was shit the first time but each time your cervix is dilated it is easier and doesn't hurt as much. I'd recommend ibuprophen and a hot water bottle. Honestly its so nice once it's in and you don't worry about it for years! Highly recommend.

Okay so I had a c section and never spontaneous laboured so I didn’t get dilated down there. I also have some trauma from getting it fitted before when I was a virgin so it wasn’t the easiest for me. However I had the consultant fit it instead of the nurse and that was so much better. They did an ultrasound first and found out I had a tilted womb (very important to know for a coil fitting as you have to basically bend the speculum backwards to fit else you just hit the wall (ouch). She used lidocaine lubricant for me which really really helped it hurt less. I had cramping while they inserted it and for about 12h afterwards but by the next day I was completely fine. I was so worried about getting it done but I did it and now don’t have to worry about it for 8 years! You got this. The speculum is the worst bit.
