What are you guys doing for contraceptives?

What are you guys use as contraceptives? My husband doesn’t like to use condoms. I always end up taking a Plan B. I found myself pregnant and I had a miscarriage and I really don’t wanna be pregnant again. We’ve been doing pull out method and it hasn’t been effective. Birth control ruins me and I’m scared of weight gain.

Girl don’t use plan b as birth control and don’t get back on birth control , try tracking your cycle Get a bunch of ovulation strips and a good period tracker , I like clue but I’m sure there’s a lot out there , test your ovulation every day for a few days when it says you might be fertile and do that every month until you get pretty good at seeing when you’re ovulating / you get the pattern down and you’ll be a lot less likely to get pregnant It’s not 100% guaranteed but neither are other methods of contraceptives

@Jessica that is how i got preg 2 months postpartum- I have the Flo app and it told me my expected ovulation days and I waited until all the blue days (possible days of me getting pregnant) were gone. then just to be safe I took ovulation tests, after that for a couple days and they were all negative- I still got pregnant

I would recommend the copper IUD, it’s non hormonal so it won’t make you gain weight

I was doing Natural Family Planning by taking my basal body temp every morning. I got the thermometer that connects to an app on my phone so it automatically logged it. I knew exactly when I was ovulating so I didn’t get pregnant until I wanted to.

@Mariah I use the Flo app too and I’m starting to think I can’t trust it 😭

@Gretchen ah thank you! I’m glad it’s actually working. I ironically bought the thermometer yesterday (waiting for it to come in). I was curious what everyone else was doing for protection. Thanks Gretchen 🩷

@Jessica I’ve been using the Flo app to track my ovulation but it’s so hard because I literally got pregnant while tracking it/husband pull out. Super stressful every month. I don’t even want to do anything with him at this point 😭😅

@Incognito you’re welcome!! as long as you follow the rules of when abstain/pull out/use a barrier method prior to and just after ovulation you shouldn’t get pregnant. The book really helps with all of that as well as how to do cervical checks for position/feel and mucus consistency.

Vasectomy

@Dana so how does the vasectomy work exactly. After your partner got the surgery done. Could you guys immediately go back into being active or how does that work?🩷 🙏

I had a copper IUD for 9 years with no issues, it worked great for me. Then after having our first child, we used condoms, I tracked my ovulation and we occasionally used the pull out method. After we had our second child, my spouse got a vasectomy. About 6 weeks after his outpatient procedure, he went back to semen analysis to make sure he was shooting blanks, and we haven't worried about birth control since

My hubby had the snip!🫣

So we were really bad and didn't wait to have sex and didn't take his swimmers in to see if he was shooting blanks. I think he was sore maybe a day or two. But he was able to go back to usual activity very quickly. There was a good 6 to 8 months after where I was worried and kept taking pregnancy tests just to make sure, but that was only cause we never took his sperm in to get tested after. I never had pregnancy symptoms, but doing the tests just made me feel better. I was on birth control for more than 10 years and my sex drive was non existent. My poor husband had such a hard time with me. Then since his vasectomy, I was able to go off all birth control. Now my sex drive is crazy. We are having so much fun. I totally regret birth control. The birth control kinda ruined our marriage for a while. The actual vasectomy procedure is very quick and very simple and actually is reversible too. Its still surgery, but very minor.

Also I should say that I tried pills, and the IUD and the vagional ring. They all sucked. And taking the Plan B every time isn't ideal. From my understanding, the more to take it, the less effective it is.

if you’re doing pull out only you should be tracking ovulation. during ovulation use condoms. i’ve been doing this for over 2 years and it’s worked. i use the test strips, you can’t rely solely on what apps say. taking plan b repeatedly is not good! i’m about to get an IUD, im nervous but supposedly they have minimal side effects. if you both are done having kids maybe he should get a vasectomy

So almost all birth control i have adverse side affects to also, my obgyn recommended the patch and I had absolutely no problem with that. It doesn't have any hormones in it so won't get the weight gain.

I have the Kyleena IUD it didn’t hurt and have no issues with it. The only thing I can say is I did gain a few pounds but nothing to extreme.

I use Nexplanon. It's a small bar in my arm. I have used it and its the only one I like. I forget its even there. You should talk to your obgyn and see which one is best for you.
