Antidepressant’s

Has anyone had PND so bad that they had to resort to the AD? If you had Citalopram, what was your experience on it ?

I’ve been on them before and they did help! Takes a couple weeks to feel the difference but it worked for me.. have you spoken to anyone to be officially diagnosed with pnd? What are your symptoms?

Yes I took citalopram for PND in 2022. Worked amazingly for me and I came off them after 9 months. I was back at work at the time and took some time off for them to kick in and feel the effect. Currently 6 weeks pp with baby 2 and wouldn’t hesitate to go back on if I felt I needed to.

@Rachel what was your symptoms of pnd?

@Sade basically the same as regular depression but I also had awful thoughts about harming myself and/or baby to get away from everything. Just total lack of interest in anything, felt worthless as a person and a parent, intrusive thoughts, extreme maternal rage would be the main ones linked to PND for me x

@Rachel how was the coming off part for you? What were the side effects ?

@Sade most of Rachel’s, I don’t have suicidal or harming anyone thoughts as such but just thinking that if I wouldn’t exist things be easier and why did I even became mom as I’m not coping etc. it may be that there were depressive traits beforehand but post baby heightened it. Emotions all over the show and I cry constantly.

Hope you are doing okay PND is horrific. I hope you’re getting good support. Coming off was fine tbf, I didn’t have any major side effects and it was nice to actually feel emotions again as that’s why I stopped taking them as I went from feeling everything to just nothing. It’s a hard balance

@Rachel did you have any side effects when you started them ? There’s plenty and severe ones seem scary?

I was really tired. I just slept for hours every day for a good few weeks then things started to balance out a little bit

I’m currently pregnant with my first so I’ve never had them for pnd, but I was on them about a year ago for regular anxiety and depression and I wouldn’t hesitate to take them again! I have a vomit phobia (I know…pregnancy has been a RIDE) so I requested anti sickness tablets along side them when I started as some people can get some nausea and sickness right at the beginning, but honestly I didn’t feel sick at all and I think the anti sickness worked more as a placebo just to get me through. Other than feeling a bit wiped out for the first few days I didn’t have any other side effects, they made me feel SO much better and helped me to feel like I had a clearer head. I also came off slowly before we tried to conceive and I didn’t have any side effects because I did it slowly (on the advice of my gp).
