Handing notice in during mat leave

Hi girls I have been offered an amazing job opportunity which starts in November. I am 3 months into maternity leave and obviously want to hand my notice in. Will I still be paid smp until I begin my new role?

No clue about smp but companies usually expect the maternity taken already to be paid back when you leave so I'd look into that on whatever employee handbook they have

@Abbie you don’t pay SMP back x

So I wouldn't hand it in until you're supposed to start new job e.g start your new job 22nd November hand in your notice around 8th November, that way you still get paid SMP until you start new job, you could also in theory "end" your SMP hand your notice in but use the remainder of your holidays instead cause your pay would probably be better xx

Check your maternity policy for a claw back clause for any enhanced pay you've had. Some places don't have it, some places you have to stay a certain amount of time back - could be a few months or even a couple of years.

@Steph don’t get any enhanced so not applicable

@Caitlin I want to give as much notice as possible and based on screenshot above I get paid anyway xx

@Chloe yeah notice is a courtesy thing it's nice to provide it but don't stress yourself over it, 99% of companies won't hire until you've fully left anyways but most of the time holiday pay is higher than smp, I'm on SMP too but holiday is paid at normal rate so I'd get more by taking holiday than maternity pay xx
