If you've only just got your matb1 form submit it to work now with dates, noting you can change them provided you give sufficient notice. Many employers policies state you need to have submitted the form 15 weeks prior to EDD. But to answer your question, I did 2 weeks before with my first and that was good for me. Baby ended up coming at 39 weeks anyway. It also depends on your job and whether you have annual leave you can use up to start mat leave later
I’m finishing on 24th October, using 4 weeks annual leave and then starting maternity leave at 37 weeks. This works out well for me as I can relax a bit before baby (my toddler keeps me busy but she’ll still be at nursery) and then I’ll be due to go back to work at the beginning of September next year, perfect for the start of term (I work in a nursery!) xx
@Fiona that’s brilliant to know thank you! I have just emailed my HR manager. The meeting is booked in for the 4th which will leave me 13 weeks before I am due. Might be able to move this meeting to next week! Thanks again xx
I’ve taken 4 weeks I’m due on the 20th dec I go on maternity the 20tb Nov xx
I’m due 16/12, but know I’ll be having her the week before. I’ve taken from 2/12 as maternity, but have taken 3 weeks holiday before it
im due on the 1st and taking maternity on the 22nd of November
I think it depends on how you feel and what kind of job you have, my pregnancy was exhausting and my job quite full on so I left at 30 weeks.
Last time I went on maternity leave a week before due date and my son was 2 weeks late, sitting around at home for 3 weeks was not fun! I think hard to know what’s right but based on my experience leaving it later makes more sense, especially if you’re able to work from home.
I’m due 16/12 I’m taking 3 weeks leave prior to my mat leave so will be going off 15/11 but my mat leave won’t start until 16/12. My work were keen for me to use my outstanding leave prior to me going off and I’ll accrue more next year to tag on to the end x
I'm due 4/12 too! My last day at work will be 21/11, using 8 days annual leave before starting mat leave on the 4th. That's the plan anyway! Hard to know how I'll feel or if that's too long or too short, so just picked something that sounded ok to me.
I’m due 16th December and starting maternity leave the week before (9th december) but will also take a week holiday before that so will finish working around 30th November
Remember you can usually use some annual leave too. So I'm taking 2 weeks annual leave, then starting MAT leave 2 weeks before due date so technically a month off before but my first was 3 weeks early so I'm gambling this one will be early too. Its more common for first babies to be overdue than not though I think
I'm doing 2 weeks prior, I was 5 weeks early for my first so I dunno if I'll even use it but I figured I may as well prep for giving birth on time. And prior to my firsts holiday from preschool.
I’m due the 2/12 and I’ve started mine the 19th November, however I actually leave the week of October half term due to loads of holiday left, depends what you do for work? I work in a very busy cafe and I’m already struggling being on my feet all day.

I’m due on the 31/12 and I’m looking to leave around end of November just have to see what happens at my growth scans as as it’s my 3rd baby my first was 7lb11 and 11 days late my 2nd was 8lb14 and 1 day early so with my 3rd if he goes like all the midwives etc say then he could be early and bigger (I bloody hope not my partners family come from Nordic vikings and they’re all tall and broad. My mother in law had 4 babies all around 9-11lb)
I'm due 8/12 and in going 13/10 due to health reasons and mental health I'm going then as just under 2 months x
I’m due 15/12 and planning on going on maternity leave from around 30th November which works out at around 2 weeks before! I’m hoping it’s enough time ♥️
