Finances!

Hi guys, I’m due to go back to work next week part time, and will be earning considerably less than before. Will also be paying for nursery which is a new expense! Just wondering how everyone splits their finances. I am a control freak and have been in charge of the bills for as long as I can remember, however the mental load of managing it all on top of everything else is getting to me. So will be splitting them now to my partner too. (He has been paying half but everything has come out of my account). I get worried if I can’t see that it’s cleared my self 🤦🏻‍♀️ I don’t know why as we haven’t ever had any issues financially up until now. Do you guys have joint bank accounts? Or keep everything separate?

We have a joint account where family expenses come from. We used to both put a bit of money there, now it's just him since I won't be getting paid 😅 it allows us both to see how much is in the "pot" and to add as needed It's been great and super easy to open with everything happening online

Much the same as above, joint bills come out of our joint account and we both have our own bank accounts for the bills that are individual to us. I’ve been part time since my first child (now 3yo) but rather than work out the proportional contributions from our salaries, we both just add whatever we have left after keeping back some for our own bills, and doing ours and our two sons’ savings accounts, to the joint account. Then it’s used for whatever- the bills, family expenses, individual spending etc. I pay the nursery (from the joint acct), only because I set up the account and do all the tax free stuff in my name, so it’s just easier for me to oversee that!

Look into the free childcare from 9 months as well as tax free childcare ny costs have come down from around 550 to 120

@Beth Wow that’s cheap! My son, who gets 30h funded and tax free, 4 days a week is £450… my Jan baby to do 3 days a week, with 15h and tax free is £400 too- How many days/hours does your LO do?

@Chloe 2 days 8:30-3:30 si glad it's not over 500 anymore I was worried on hiw I would afford it as I'll only be making £800 max

@Beth And it’s down to £120 a month?! That’s crazy- good for you!!

@Chloe I honestly have no idea how they must of calculated it wrong 😂

Thankyou for this. We have opened a joint account for the shared bills and I think will do as Chloe has been, send in what we can. As I won’t be able to contribute as much as my partner is able to. With regards to tax free and funded hrs. We can’t use the funded hours untill January. My little boy missed the cut off by 4 days! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Wow that’s great! Ours is still about £640 a month with the tax free!! And he’s only going 3 days a week! Thankyou for all your help! Xx
