Maternity allowance

Hi everyone, I’m really confused. I’ve just received a letter about my maternity allowance and how much I’ll be paid. It says I’ll receive £736.12 every 4 weeks as my regular payment. But it doesn’t say when this starts. Above this it states I’ll receive my “first payment of £131 for the period from the 2nd September to the 6th September” does that mean that I will be paid the £131 at the start of September and then receive £736 at the end of the month? Or am I only getting £131 for the whole month of September? Can someone explain?

You’ll get the £131 within 5-10 working days and then will get the full £736 4 weeks after. That’s what happened with me ☺️

@Alina I’m all so confusing. Like when they asked what day I wanted to be paid I asked for the end of the month. As I get paid monthly by my job. So this month I got paid early due the bank holiday. But if my next big payment isn’t until the 4th October how the hell do I my bills? This maternity thing is crazy. What the hell 😂😂😂😂

@Kara unfortunately I can’t do that, I’ve got fixed terms and contracts. So I can’t move the dates. I’m hoping after October it will be fine, I’ll just have to get used to being paid differently

Just wondering how long did it take to get your letter back I am still waiting, nearly 5 weeks x

Hi , just enquiring as all new to this.. Maternity grant? do u have to be working to recieve this? Or is it free to any mums? X

Also iv just had baby 4 weeks ago what payments can you receive? Please x

@Charlene this is the maternity allowance not the grant x

@Charlene no this is maternity allowance, so I haven’t worked in my current job long enough to be paid by my work place so it’s SMP I think x

Ok thank u every one x

@Charlene u can apply for sure start grant if you receive any benefits like UC x

I dont get uc only child benefit and child tax cred can i still apply or not if im on that? Xx

@Charlene yes even with child tax credit you are eligible for the £500 maternity sure start grant cx

@Charlene u can get the form online and it tells you what documents to send with it , I think u can either send ur matb1 form or get a medical professional to write a statement confirming the pregnancy or childbirth

Ok thanks i aint in work though?

Will this still apply to me or do i need to be in employment? xx
