Stat pay

How’s everyone surviving on stat maternity pay. Just had my first wage of only stat pay and I’m not ok 😂😂 knew it was coming but it is literally buttons !! Cannot believe women are expected to live off of this while raising a family.

Literally survival of the fittest lol

I couldn't have survived on it, I went back yo work when my baby was 4 months old, literally been back a month and am shattered, doesn't help that she never sleeps through the night, she's still up every 2 or 3 hours 😂 xxx

Honestly, savings that I gathered before I got pregnant. It's real out here 😬

Just making it

My husband specifically went for a promotion that's given him a 5k pay increase because of baby otherwise he would have stayed where he was for a bit.

@Christina I might have to go back 😢 I’ve took a 2k hit in wages. I’ll be heartbroken leaving my LO. Going to see how I get on with doing KIT days to top up my wage before I commit to anything though x

@Maisie I had some savings but we also bought a new house while I was pregnant that subsequently needed a new boiler after being in for 7 weeks 🤦🏻‍♀️ bye bye savings

@Helen I’m lucky my partner makes a decent wage so we might just be ok but it’s still going to be a struggle x

@Kashani haha it really is 😫

peppering the kit (keep in touch days) in that period means I’ll be able to pay my side of the mortgage and bills, the rest is savings until smp runs out and I can use my standard holiday

I was very lucky we could survive on my partners wage and I had savings. I also made some decent extra cash on Vinted selling bits we didn’t need anymore, every little helps! x

Can’t you apply for Universal Credit etc?

Oh god how much is stat pay? I’ll be going back to work so I have no clue what it is x

Not making it, wracking up debt and over drafts. Going back to work early xx

it is disgusting that the government think the amount is acceptable when they increase their own salary and claim extortionate amount of expenses every year because they ‘can’t survive’

I'm not, I only took 4 weeks on stat pay and went to work for 4 days so I did return to work days, I've also taken 3 weeks holiday basically my smp went into my half pay and smp pay so I got a lot more then normal smp thank god

Wouldn’t call it surviving 😂 the drop in pay is insane and honestly had to just reduce alot of things and also hold off on payments etc just to get by until I go back to work. We used to have so much disposable income (wife took a huge pay cut for a new career) and me on Mat allowance so can’t even top it up, we just don’t go out for paid things as often.

Pre planning. Factoring in having children in the future when we bought a house etc. We bought a house that we could pay all the bills on with one wage.

I minimised the time I needed to be on SMP. I used up my 30 days of annual leave (full pay) along with carrying over 3 weeks of leave from the year before and KIT days to add 2.5 months full pay extra to my leave. I took a promotion 6 months before leave and I put away a few grand during the 9 months to have extra in the house ready.

@Yasmin I’ve got a load of stuff that I should really get in vinted asap!

@Kasia I’m not entitled to anything as they just look at your usual salary alongside your partners. We both make a decent income but it’s just a shocker when you’re down to stat pay x

@Hannah £750 a month 🫠

@Lisa it’s all well and good saying that but life happens and unexpected bills crop up. I had savings which took a massive hit when we moved into our new home and had to replace the boiler after just 7 weeks of being in the property. Not everything is black and white 😊

You asked how everyone else survives maternity pay and I answered 🤷‍♀️

Combined we were comfortable before everything went up, we don't exactly earn bad money but everything soon adds up. We would manage on just my husband wage. But it would be tricky. I used to earn very little so I can easily cook cheap, it's just a bit depressing going backwards. I will only be doing 3 months unpaid unless I go back earlier. I can't eat too much into my savings as 2k is owed back to work as they paid me wrongly while I was on mat leave

@Lisa your answer was a bit patronising

My boiler went too which massively dented our savings. I feel you girl, some girls I know took on doing a bit of tutoring or some amazon flex shifts to supplement too! Or vinted is a good place to create some extra cash, it's not just clothes! Hang in there mama, you got this 💕
